New Modular Ship Program
The New Modular Ship Program is a series of modular components and a common architecture that combines the various components avalible to the Magnetic Assembly into a shared system that allows for ship to be quickly designed, constructed, and deployed into the Provisional Fleet.
Instead of producing a single starship with interchangeable components that could be swapped out like the S4 Series Starship, the New Modular Ship Program produced numerous different starship hulls from modular components.
Ship Designs
- S9 series starship - Testbed Drone
- S10 series starship - Interstellar Warship
- S11 series starship - Interstellar Operations Support Ship
History
The S9 Ship Program was started in late 2321 both as an excuse to update the S4 series of starship modules with the latest in construction methodologies developed on Rotislav, and to produce dedicated combat ships to support the ongoing conflict with the American Union.
By the 2320s, much of the older tooling and assembly systems on Rotislav had been updated which in turn required older designs be updated to make better use of new technology. At the same time, the War with the American Union changed the types of missions being carried out by ships built around Rotislav, and the distances in which those missions needed to be carried out. This would lead to an effort to redesign many of the modular ship systems that the Magnetic Assembly had been using. This would first result in the S9 Ship Program.
The S9 Ship Program was started in late 2321 to be the initial design created as part of the update process. This would be used to develop individual components but would ultimately be canceled in a few months as it was determined there was no way to reasonably send drones into the Sol. The S9 Program would then be renamed the New Modular Starship Program, and development would switch towards creating components for two new ships that more fit the expeditionary harassment plan of the war effort.
