MADS-110 Fusion-Thermal Rocket
Magnetic Assembly Drive System 10 is an aneutronic fusion reactor with a 'nuclear lightbulb' style multi-modal rocket engine.
The system is relatively high tech and robust compared to other systems. The fusion reactor itself is more efficient than comparable models produced within the American Union, and the nuclear-thermal rocket can even be run on just about any fuel source. The multi-modal systems allow for chemical fuel mixes to be used in addition to the nuclear-thermal systems for increased force and ISP. The end result is an engine that is highly fault-tolerant but falls short of being the most efficient or powerful.

History
The MADS-110 is built upon a long line of fusion power plant designs that were developed by the Magnetic Assembly and its predecessors throughout the 2200s with a focus on long duration, shorter speed, and high efficiency operations near Bruno that were often carried out by mining and prospecting craft. The design itself is the first one produced by the Assembly after its departure from the American Union that is also intended for use on warships. This allowed the Assembly to produce a design to their own specifications without the reliance on certain types of Fusion fuels common in the American Union, though the tight time constraints on the design prevented them from deploying a design optimized for military use. Instead the MADS-110 is an up-armored industrial drive system based on the systems already in use, and is intended to be replaced with systems that are better hardened against damage in the future.
Layout
The primary reactor of the MADS-110 is a toroidal tokamak style system using deuterium-tritium fuel. A reaction-mass pump runs through the center of the device, and is super-heated by the drive's waste heat to use as exhaust before being pumped into a combustion chamber. Typically the exhaust simply flows out the bell at the bottom of the engine, but the combustion chamber can also be used to mix chemical propellants instead of using only a heated monopropellant.
Usage
The MADS-110 is designed to be used on the larger ships of the Magnetic Assembly to provide them with an easy to resupply propulsion system that can sustain operations far from the developed infrastructure around the Gas Giant Bruno. It is intended to push large payloads typically at lower accelerations like 1-3g where it is most efficient.
