• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Magnetic Assembly Containerized System - 3: Containerized Stability System

Flywheels, Mass Dampeners, backup power, and computer control systems all housed in a standard cargo container. This device is designed to provide stability for a starship or structure through reduction of vibrations and through helping enforce orientation.

Overview

Name: MACS-2
Type: Containerized Stability System
Operators: Magnetic Assembly
Manufacturer: Magnetic Assembly

Height: 2.0 Meters
Length: 10.0 Meters
Width: 2.5 Meters

History

The New Modular Ship Program created after the independence of the Hawking System required an update of essential equipment used in starship construction. This included some of the underlying mechanical systems that are needed to make spaceflight possible such as the mass dampeners and reaction wheels used to keep a ship stable in fight. The latest versions of these systems were packed with various support equipment and deployed as a containerized system in late 2321 to little fanfare.

Layout

The module is not designed to be serviced by hand, and houses numerous redundant flywheels and dampeners designed to work together and gracefully handle individual component failure. Servicing of the module requires the module be removed and disassembled for any real work to occur.

Usage

This module is designed to be attached to a larger starship to act as a stability system, often requiring a reinforced connection to the ship's hull so that it can best absorb vibrations as well as help turn or orient the ship while in flight.
