History
The S9 was rapidly developed towards the end of 2321, displaying just how quickly The Magnetic Assembly could prototype and assemble a new class of starship.
With combat against the American Union not slowing down like originally hoped the Magnetic Assembly started to look at new ways to further disrupt the Union's capabilities. It was determined that a raiding strategy should be employed against the homeworld, as the overwhelming combat presence of ISOC within the Sol system would be enough to stop any large scale attack. Any ship entering the Sol system would have to expect that ISOC forces would chase it down so it would need to have high acceleration characteristics as well as an absolutely massive fuel tank to keep ahead of perusing forces. The ship would also need an extremely long range weapon to be able to reach targets while keeping a safe distance from any defensive forces.
The resulting design would take a new tug system being developed for use with S4 modules, and mount two side facing Cold Particle Beam Coupled Laser emitters in a broadside mount taken from the S3 series program. Additional basic equipment would be installed such as communication gear, orientation thrusters, and some basic protection against head-on micrometer impacts. Equipment like armor and crew capacity was completely neglected in favor of being able to out-accelerate threats.
The assembly would take place above Rotislav, with the initial construction being completed within a few weeks. The rapid pace being made possible largely be already having many of the components built and only requiring final assembly then integration.
Further wargaming at this point would help determine that there was no reasonable way to get enough S9 drones into the Sol system to do any kind of damage to the American Union before a counter-attack would destroy them. This would end up bringing a close to the S9 construction, and the components would instead be disassembled and put towards the upcoming S10 design.
