• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

History

The UG-3001 is based on a near-ancient design widely used by the Magnetic Assembly for moving payload around their home star system. Stellar Defense would have access to the design, and quickly update it for sale to the American Union after the disastrous Operation Overflowing Patriotism where the Union lost 6 Statesmen class ships to forces of the secessionist New Cambridge government. By mid 2320 the launch system was already being installed on Statesmen class ships.

Layout

The UG-3001 is a 70 meter long launch system studded with additional power capacitors and radiators along its length. Stellar Defense also added a long range target finding radar system and a small tower with an engineering and viewing station to monitor the weapon system. The launch system can handle payloads up to 1.2 meters in size which allows it to launch the majority of Union missiles as well as the smaller 100mm railgun slugs used in the UG-311 and UG-324.

An auto-loading system towards the rear of the weapon allows it switch between a variety of rounds stored in a rotating magazine 'below' the weapon itself.

The system is fixed in a forward firing configuration requiring the entire ship be turned towards the target. The long barrel of the weapon allows it to accelerate projectiles to extreme speeds and the ability to launch guided missiles gives the weapon some flexibility in hitting off-bore-sight targets.
