• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

The Edward Deming is an old ship that has been rebuilt many times and the ship bares no resemblance to the original Hayden-Class star-ship that provided the original FTL system for the ship. The constant tinkering with the ship's design gives it a far greater logistical footprint than other ships used by the Magnetic Assembly. Despite this, the crew often find themselves constantly making adjustments and improvements to the design.

Refit History

2330 Refit

This massive refit of the Edward Deming started prior to 2030, and was the main reason why the ship was docked at Rotislav during the New Years Revolution. The ship was scheduled for decommissioning at the time by the American Union, only to have the refit completed by The Magnetic Assembly once the ship had been captured.

This refit is responsible for removing the old twisting corridors of the older Edward Deming, and replacing them with the new fold-out crew modules and more modern stack design. Nearly all other parts of the ship were reconfigured as well from the launch bay down to major structural elements. The observation decks were entirely removed as well. The ship's drive system, FTL core, some communications gear, and many of the electronic control components were retained just in a new shell.

Mid 2330 Refit

Carried out shortly after the battle of Reiss, an additional series of changes were incorporated into the Edward Deming. Four UG-301 cannons salvaged from the Statesmen class warship AUS Jerry Brown were added just above the ship's launch bays and the middle section between the two crew modules was enlarged to make room for containerized component modules. The communication gear was also moved up to the mid-point of the ship in preparation for a later refit that would update the ship's reaction-mass storage tanks. The ship's primary engine nozzle was also replaced with a new version that incorporated better cooling and stronger gimbling for better maneuverability. This would also be the version of the ship that was used on the ship's official patch.

Carried out shortly after the return from Azathoth, the ED received another series of changes that included some changes to the interior of the launch bays, and the addition of 12 containerized component module spaces below the launch bays. The conventional reaction-mass tanks were also replaced with S6 series tanker drones to facilitate faster transfer of reaction-mass, fuel, and other consumables as well as providing increased radiator surfaces.

Feb 2321 Refit

A slight modification to the ship prior to the departure for hyperborea, an omni-directional radar system was added below the ship's communication systems.

April 2321 Refit

During the trip to Hyperborea, the radar system was redesigned to better attach to the protective covering of the crew module, and to allow the protective paneling of the crew module to help protect the sensitive electronics of the radar systems rather than letting the radar system sit ontop of the armor.
