• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. The Battle of Reiss

Following the New Years Revolution, the Battle of Reiss took place in February of 2320 between an Ad-Hoc defensive group created by The Magnetic Assembly consisting of The Edward Deming and The Woody Guthrie, and the American Union's 6th fleet.

The American Union's 6th fleet would take a full month to respond to The New Years Revolution, waiting until it could bring in all of its ships together in the Atlantica system, and then sending them along with a PMC group into the Hawking System. The goal of their operation was to secure Reiss, which housed the system's SLE as well as a large reserve of fusion fuels. Securing this planet would provide the American Union with a beachhead to bring further units into the Hawking System and isolate the system itself. The 6th fleet would also be supported by Special Forces units that had managed to evade capture during the New Years Revolution.​

The Magnetic Assembly

After the New Years Revolution, the Magnetic Assembly was left with a lot of territory to defend. This included energy production systems near the star of the Hawking System, Hawking itself, the extensive space infrastructure around Rotislav, and the SLE on Reiss. The Defense of Reiss was entrusted to The Edward Deming, which was assigned the support of The Woody Gurthrie, an automated transport ship that had been converted into a warship. While it was unlikely the two ships would be sufficient to stop the expected attack from the American Union's 6th fleet on its own, they did have access to the laser facility on Reiss that is used to propel objects around the Hawking System. They would also employ a large number of spongecake drones that would be deployed to the surface of Reiss.​

Outcome


The laser facilities on Reiss, combined with reflection satellites would allow The Magnetic Assembly to burn out the engine systems of the incoming 6th fleet ships as they approached Reiss. Combined with devastating cyber-attacks that resulted in the fully intact capture of one of the 6th fleet's statesmen class warships, the 6th fleet would end up with all of its ships scattered where they could be destroyed or captured by The Magnetic Assembly.

This was followed by compromised hardware onboard a ship returned to the American Union shortly after The New Years Revolution opening fire on the Atlantica SLE, obliterating it and many of the ships surrounding it. This would ensure that the American Union would be completely unable to get a useful amount of forces to the Hawking System for years to come.[/H]
