• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

History

The Caelus Lightning has its roots in the Furge of 2248 where Daqin interference let to the blackmailing, removal, or embarrassment of leaders throughout the Human Sphere. This would lead to dramatic changes within the Union Launch Alliance and Stellar that would in turn lead to the creation of Caelus itself. Newer leaders were more willing to take risks and in turn more willing to attempt working with other corporations.

By 2270 Caelus would produce its first design, the Lightning. The design itself was intended to exploit the civilian market as widely as possible, and partners were sought within the GDW and HFR to widen that market. Though the ship itself didn't have too remarkable capabilities, it was able to be produced at shipyards throughout the Human Sphere and was easily available to most. The ease of acquisition and wide production led to a large amount of available spare parts making it an attractive option for smaller operators.

By the 2300s the Caelus could be found throughout the Human Sphere.

In 2320 the New Years Revolution on Hawking would cause a massive split in Caelus. Caelus designs for the civilian market, and has to keep its production facilities and personnel separate from the military sides of their cooperate owners like ULA and Stellar. The design would continue to be produced near Jupiter and other facilities largely by the ULA/Stellar side of Caelus while facilities in the Hawking System would start developing their own branch of the ship.

Layout

The Lightning is a highly conventional ship stack with engines on the bottom, a reactor ontop of that, followed by radiation shield, crew and systems modules, and then an avionics payload at the top.

The crew module has three levels, with an airlock at the bottom and a three person cockpit with crash couches for the crew. The rest of the internal space is highly configurable.

Armor

The Lightning has minimal armor, with thin layers around the ship's reactors and engine systems mostly to defend against micro-meteor strikes with slightly thicker armor focused around the crew section to protect against stellar radiation.

Weapons

The Lightning is armed with a single Caelus Twin Railgun Turret mounted on one side of the ship. The unarmed version of the ship replaces the twin rail turret with an additional storage space for 6 cargo containers.

Life Support

The Lightning has a ECLSS type life support system capable of providing a comfortable 0.8atm of pressure interior for up to 8 people.
