Caelus
A complicated joint venture, the Caelus corporation is based within the Jovian colonies in Sol and focuses on the production of starships for the civilian sector.
Jovian Owned and Operated
Though its small spacecraft and space suits can be found throughout human space, Caelus markets itself as a home-grown Jovian corporation to appeal towards its core customer base of individuals and businesses that operate out of space colonies.
History
Caelus has its roots in the Furge of 2248 where Daqin interference let to the blackmailing, removal, or embarrassment of leaders throughout the Human Sphere. This would lead to dramatic changes within the Union Launch Alliance and Stellar which would see dramatic disruption of their business operations throughout space. The focus on larger long range ships, and the sudden lack of attention to the Jovian Markets would open up a space for smaller ship producers to find a niche in the market. Caelus would start out producing space suits and small transit pods for moving between space colonies and quickly grow their market share. By 2270 they were producing their first full star-ship the Caelus Lightning.
By partnering with Stellar, Caelus would get additional funding to expand production, and license their products to be produced in other star systems, which would in turn see further investment in Caelus by space faring groups like the Magnetic Assembly. By the 2300s, their products could be found on space stations throughout the Human Sphere.
In 2320, the New Years Revolution on Hawking would cause a split in Caelus. The portions of the company present in Hawking would end up split off from their home offices around Jupiter, and there became an open question as to what to do with their Assembly's shares in the company now that they were no longer part of the American Union. In 2323, the legal issues around the split were largely settled, and Stellar would quietly pay a below market-rate price to the Magnetic Assembly to take over their shares in Caelus, bringing the company under majority ownership of Stellar.
