With a need for a universal trade good recognized by most Nation States, the trade guilds and intergalactic corporations began discussions for a placeholder until the galactic powers could agree upon a standardized trade currency. They decided the material called Wofleonium by the people of Reservoir would serve as the commodity traded with nations for goods and services. This was because most nations had a need for this material in the construction of FTL engines and drives, thus most nations would accept some amount of this material as a trade commodity.

As for the international independent organizations and international travelers, refined FTL fuel, called Hexaaxium by the people of Reservoir, is also a commodity in demand.

These two materials necessary for modern intersystem travel would be instrumental in the forming of a new currency.

because of the value even a small amount of either material was relatively great, an independent repository bank would be the issuing institution.

Thus was born the financial institution, Werner Banco Independente

Named for the father of the ancient practice of quantitative easing, Werner Banco Independente acts as safeguard as much as a repository of valuable materials.

Initially organized around a block chain method of tracking the ownership of various amounts of fuel and FTL materials, was born the Werner or W-credit chip. The unit of value was determined to equal the mass of one milligram of Hexaaxium or one nanogram of Wofleonium.

As each unit of commodity is carefully tracked and each chip has a unique blockchain alphanumeric as well as the mass of each chip is specifically coded to its specific blockchain code, counterfeit chips are virtually impossible to produce. An additional layer of security is the verification of the chip for any significant purchase to authenticate ownership and authenticity via database.

Werner Banco Independente was founded in the Reservoir system due to the large deposits of Hexaaxium on Superbia and Wofleonium on Ira as well as the relative neutrality of the Kingdom of Vice and Virtue. The main complex on Vice occupies several hundred square miles of both ocean and scattered islands with access to the underground storage vaults limited to a few access points with many layers of security, many of whom are augmented genetically and cybernetically. To ensure the bank itself has adequate protection, they also make regular purchases of the latest battleframes from several makers. This supplies the bank with the excessive defensive capabilities. Few consider and none dare attack the repository for the FTL material stockpile, finding other ventures both more profitable and sure in an increasingly unstable universe.

Various 3cm shapes of chips, such as squares, circles, and pentagons have an embedded chip within the hard resin delineating ownership of an amount of material honored by most commercial fueling depots as well as virtually all merchants and shops.
