• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Diāochán Class Gunship

7CGAeBd.jpg

An early gunship design, the Diāochán embodies the spirit of the Daqin merchant fleet. It is fast, has incredible range, is well armed, and has a large payload capacity. Though it has been largely replaced by newer designs based on the same fame with updated internals, the Diāochán can still be seen throughout Daqin space

History

A flight of Diāochán was encountered by the crew of the Edward Deming in 2320 during the arrival of Azathoth in the Hawking System. The Empire of Daqin had decided that Azathoth couldn't be left intact for the Magnetic Assembly to investigate so a task force of largely older ships were put together to land an attack force on the planetoid. It was expected that due to the long range of the attack, that the trip would be one way for the first wave of ships involved, and the crew would have to await recovery under the surface of Azathoth. This logic was why older ships nearing retirement were chosen for the attack.

The three chū guó carrier craft assigned to the attack would be destroyed on approach by the MAS Amicus Curiae. The particle beams of the carriers interacted strongly with the particle-beam-coupled-lasers of the Amicus Curiae, reducing the effective range of both beam systems. This allowed the Carriers to close the distance to the Magnetic Assembly's battleship before being destroyed, allowing the Diāochán to heavily damage the Assembly's battleship and the land forces inside of Azathoth before the rest of the Assembly's fleet could respond.
