• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Safaa "Drift" El Fassi is a GDW Technical Specialist on secondment with the Outremer Project. Driven to explore the unknown, Safaa is mostly friendly but quick to turn things into a challenge for the sake of competition. Her semi-serious nature belies a sophisticated engineering expertise that can aid in a number of technical challenges. While in the field she keeps to her armour as if it were a second skin, but can be found off-duty opting for durable dark-coloured fatigues, complete with a semi-signature CSC leather jacket.

Personality

Safaa is surprisingly high-energy for a GDW citizen, easily bored when stuck in the same location and suffering from something akin to wonderlust. Though mostly friendly, she can come off as blunt when it comes to other peoples' problems, being strongly driven by a competitive streak and desire to be first on the frontier and often not used to looking back. She will usually call the situation precisely as she sees it and her boredom can easily manifest into a bitter proclivity for sarcasm and profanity.

She is a creative problem-solver and typically does not have problems with following orders, but is instinctively more suited to solo-work in the field, leading to some seeing her as prone to disobeying orders or being reckless and showing off. Even off the clock her thrillseeker tendencies and competitive nature persist, enjoying extreme sports and other competitions. Safaa's nickname «حركة» or "Drift" was given to her for her tendencies to work alone and seek out new things.

In spite of her somewhat overly independent nature, Safaa's technical specialty can make her a reliable asset when tasked to solve a particular issue. Though she lacks the same pure expertise as scientific specialists, Safaa's hybrid skillset gives her a unique perspective in the field, often happily supporting unorthodox ideas and asymmetrical combat. While all for planning tactics, Safaa is one of the first to admit the situation can change on a dime at a moment's notice and one should always adapt accordingly.

Appearance

Safaa maintains a relatively athletic build from regular exercise activities and is often visibly happiest when given something to do that doesn't involve sitting around or repetitive tasks. Her black hair is slightly longer than her shoulders but shows signs of light damage from under-maintenance and exposure to rough environments, and is either left hanging loose or tied back into a simple ponytail. She has a number of small scars from minor injuries on her arms, with a more prominent one from blast shrapnel on the side of her left temple.

Though not quite a perpetual optimist, Safaa's combination of thrill-seeking and enjoying a challenge can leave her in surprisingly good spirits quite often, especially when given a chance to show off. This natural bright-eyed appearance comes somewhat naturally, but can just as quickly turn to stern frowning or sarcastic eye movements as the situation demands.

  • Build: Tall, somewhat well-built and slightly lean
  • Facial Features: Subtle jawline with a gently pointed chin and a slightly small nose. A faded scar can be seen next to her left temple when not covered by hair. Eyebrows are naturally curved.
  • Hair Style: Black, typically simply kept as a shoulder-length cut either loose or in a simple single ponytail. Prone to split ends due to under-maintenance.
  • Distinguishing Features: Small scars across arms from old injuries, typically cuts and a larger one near her left temple from shrapnel. Calluses on hands from years of climbing.

History

Born to Levi and Ruwa in 2295 in the Berlin Arcology, Safaa (or "Sascha" for those who somehow struggled to pronounce it) was the couple's only child. Growing up she would often be taken to parks and nearby woods for camping with her father, fostering a fondness for the outdoors and athletics. Though she did well in school, Safaa's competitive tendencies lead to a few incidents at times with other students, leading to her turn to sports as a way to channel it and ultimately became relatively well-liked by her peers. After graduation, she decided to pursue a career inspired by her mother and attended university in Munich to study engineering, taking well to the new environment and its challenges. Upon earning her degree, Safaa spent several years as an engineer in GDW territory working on agricultural robotics. Unfortunately, this became relatively boring faster than Safaa liked, and she struggled to find challenges in the job. Running out of ideas, Safaa sought advice from her parents and was suggested to consider enlisting with the Commonwealth armed forces, specifically the CSC to help find a position that suited her need for challenges.

Intrigued by the idea, and after spending a few months considering alternative ideas, she decided to enlist to the CSC. After completing training at boot camp, Safaa was welcomed into the space command as a new marine. Over the course of her new career with the marines Safaa managed to grow and enjoyed the new challenges faced in the work, however, the allure of space travel began to lose its appeal as the CSC consisted predominantly of anti-piracy work within GDW territories. Being somewhat vocal about the GDW's lack of expansive operations, Safaa drew the attention of a small CSC project codenamed "Pioneer". Much to her delight, Pioneer had been established to piggyback off other international projects outside the GDW through secondment and joint research. Given her natural instinct for operating off the beaten track, Safaa was determined to be a viable candidate for the program, and was offered enhanced training and a range of additional cybernetics to augment her standard-issue implants from the space marine program. After successfully completing the Pioneer's training she was issued with her equipment and assigned as a Technical Specialist on the AU's Outremer Project.

Skills

  • Skill 1: Survival Training - Safaa's marine training has given her experience in survival in a number of different terrains, including space, within ships and groundside.
  • Skill 2: Weapon Training - Like all CSC personnel, Safaa is familiar with most of the CSC arsenal as well as how to properly use infantry weapons. Her personal preference leans towards assault rifles, personal defence weapons and handguns.
  • Skill 3: Military Vehicle Handling - Safaa has trained with a number of standard military vehicles, though doesn't have any formal flight qualifications. Her favourite option is a light vehicle such as jeeps and buggies.
  • Skill 4: Engineering - Prior to enlisting in the CSC, Safaa spent time studying electrical engineering at university, using it to earn her technical specialist rank after enlisting.
  • Skill 5: Demolitions - A talent Safaa didn't stumble upon until joining the CSC, she realised the combination of her technical and military training made her surprisingly capable at demolitions and EOD. Though it's not a skill she advertises due to its inherent danger, Safaa is usually ready to blow something up, or diffuse, at a moment's notice.
  • Skill 6: Military Hardware Maintenance - Safaa's engineering skills let her work on military-level equipment with considerable ease, being already familiar with common equipment and able to pull specs on other items as needed.
  • Skill 7: Electronic Systems - In addition to having hardware expertise, the CSC specialist training gave Safaa familiarity with a number of software systems and how to use them. While not an expert on par with computational scientists, Safaa's skills are still useful for working in the field.
  • Skill 8: Field Medic - Safaa is trained in emergency medical procedures for battlefield injuries, and works well together with her survival training in finding safe sources of food and water.
  • Skill 9: Multilingual (English, German, Arabic) - Safaa is fluently trilingual in English, German and Arabic.
  • Skill 10: Climbing - Originally picked up during survival training, Safaa began various types of climbing exercise as a hobby.

Inventory

  • Item 1: "Hayim" Custom Armour - A modified set of GDW combat armour for Safaa's personal specifications, the "Hayim" boasts considerable flexibility and protection thanks to a series of overlapping and magnetically-guided plates. It also features a number of modular hardpoints around the shoulders, back, chest, waist and legs for mounting additional equipment. The boots and gloves have been designed to maximise performance in rough terrains and when climbing, but can be outfitted with arm-mounted grapple-launchers for enhanced mobility. The suit itself has a number of enhanced sensors that provide Safaa with additional information via a cybernetic link, while also being able to monitor her vitals while worn. A robust touch-terminal was installed on the left arm for computer interfacing in the field.
  • Item 2: "Rtila" Robotic Arms - The most notable component of the "Hayim" are four semi-autonomous robotic arms attached to the back, controlled via a cybernetic link. The "Rtila"-model arms feature a six-finger industrial-style design and are surprisingly dexterous for mechanised attachments, able to rotate well beyond the limits of human limbs. Each arm sports a number of internal options such as tools, multi-spectrum lights and sensors that feed back to Safaa. Though the arms are not strong enough to support Safaa alone, they can help keep her in position while climbing or carrying additional equipment for her. An additional, and initially unintended use, was shown to be useful in close combat as improvised weapons and in blocking melee strikes. In some instances she will also fit them with more sophisticated items such as cutting torches or light weapons as needed.
  • Item 3: Cybernetic Implants - As part of the GDW Pathfinder program Safaa was given several cybernetic implants to augment her health and neurological abilities, such as cardiac implants to aid her heart function in the event of damage and nanomachine reservoir augmentations to allow for faster clotting of wounds and treating infections. Most prominently visible along the lower back of her neck are connection ports to a spinal cord implant to interface with external technology. This was later enhanced with implants connected to the optic nerves, allowing for the projection of a virtual HUD along with information overlaid from other sensors, though Safaa has complained of headaches on using this for extended periods. A number of other implants are present as well to monitor her vitals.
  • Item 4: Toolkit - Even without the "Rtila" arms, Safaa often keeps an extensive toolkit on her for a range of technical needs.
