The Transhuman Restriction Act of 2321
"The number one threat to our people is the threat of Transhumanist modification. Two months ago, I promised to wage a new all-out offensive against this social rot that threatens our people from within.
Today our balanced, comprehensive, attack moves forward in yet another critical area as we institute a major new program to crack down on illegal transhuman activities.
I've asked our senate to provide the legislative authority and the funds to fuel this kind of offensive. This offensive will cover the entire human sphere from Earth to Hawking. It will be government wide, with new agencies tasked to coordinate our response. And it will be Union-wide, with new educational programs put forth to guard our children against these dangers. We must continue to alert the American people about this attack on our minds and bodies and through our collective vigilance we will be victorious."
-- Tamara Lewis, President of the American Union, March 1st 2321
History
The loss of the 6th fleet in the battle of Hawking would spell doom for the Ralston Administration, allowing the Lewis administration to come into power in 2321 with promises of restoring American Union pride and civility. This would lead directly to pushing the Transhuman Restriction Act of 2321 in the American Union senate to strengthen the American Union's position against The Magnetic Assembly and to a lesser extent The Empire of Daqin. As the administration could not criminalize sympathy for The Magnetic Assembly, they could criminalize high end cybernetics and body-mods that were common among those inclined to support The Assembly. When the law entered into effect, it would allow the American Union to pursue further legal action internally against
Legal Effects
The law itself would restrict the usage of high end genetic mods and cybernetics for use on humans, requiring the registration and approval of the Transhuman Administration Command (TAC). Various fees and other restrictions are placed upon the modifications, and oversight of these operations is often outsourced to various corporations within the American Union
