• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

History

The SantaJusta is designed to fill a niche often needed by the ships of the magnetic Assembly. The transports and smaller cargo lifters of the Assembly are designed for use in low gravity environments. In situations without well developed orbital infrastructure such as around the planet Hawking or during interstellar expeditions these smaller transports would struggle to bring equipment back up off the surface of planets. This would often require their mother ship come down to an extremely low orbit, restrictions to be placed on what can be brought back to the ship, or usually both. Various larger lifting ships have been in use for centuries, and in 2322 a smaller lift ship designed for carrying a single smaller craft to higher orbit at a time was developed for the Magnetic Assembly and more specifically for the starship Edward Deming. The size of the craft was largely dictated by the needs of the Edward Deming, which placed some restrictions on size as it needed to be carried across interstellar distances. Additional accommodations also needed to be made to have a place to anchor the lift ship to the parent ship.

In 2324, the ship would enter service, largely being used around New Cambridge on the planet Hawking and also being fit to the Edward Deming for use.

Operation

The SantaJusta is designed to catch ships in atmospheric or sub-orbital flight using the kite system housed underneath the craft.

First, the SantaJusta slows down, and puts itself into sub orbital flight, coming down do meet its cargo which will rise to an appropriate altitude. The SantaJusta will then deploy its Kite, a drone craft that is connected to the SantaJusta by a massive extending cable. The cable is used to help mitigate speed differences, letting the kite match the speed of the cargo craft or shuttle and connecting with it. The SantaJusta can then safely throttle up and start pulling its cargo into a higher orbit.

Naming

The SantaJusta is named for the Santa Justa lift in Lisboa Portugal, and individual ships of the class tend to be named after power lifters.
