S1 Series Starship
The S1 series drone is is a utilitarian craft designed to easily have equipment swapped out. It marked a massive shift in construction styles for ships in the Hawking system where parts and designs became increasingly modularized which in turn allowed for more designs to be produced for specialized use faster than before. This would also be the clean-sheet design from Heram Wazu that would elevate him from just a designer to being on track to running much of the ship development for the Magnetic Assembly.

History
The S1 was developed in 2309 for the light year array program: An attempt to build a light-year in diameter telescope array for scientific study. As Heram Wazu was the one pushing for the program, he also took it upon himself to design the ships that would house the array. Wazu already had a lot of experiance working on, modifying, and creating entirely new ships. This ship would be a completely new design, and for the first time his experiance with software development would be put towards physical engineering. Everything that could be containerized, was. This would result in a ship that was mostly a bare-bones framework. The needed components were placed in cargo containers and then attached to this framework. This would allow the S1 to be quickly updated with new equipment and deployed as part of the light year array over the next few decades.
But Wazu was also thinking further ahead than just the array.
The S1's containerized components such as engines and control systems could easily be intigrated into other ships with minimal work. This would allow the S1 project's work to be easily carried over into new designs. The S1's modularity also allowed for a wide range of equipment to be dropped into the design. This allowed many different S1 designs to be produced within a year, including dual-use designs that could be easily retrofitted from civillian to military use in an emergency.
This wide utility of the S1 would see it produced in large numbers and used throughout the Human Sphere.
Layout
The S1 has a hexagonal body with an inset 'bread board' design with built in radiation shielding, power distribution, and cooling. Each 'face' can store 9 containers in 3x3 configuration on the inside, and 6 containers on the exterior. Additionally sensor systems, antenna, and other equipment are often attached to the exterior or suspended in the center. This 'dumb' exterior houses all of the components required for spaceflight including storage, control, and payload.
