A Modernized Antique, the S-87 is designed to be the ultimate version of the standard pump action shotgun designs of the 1960s to combine a well tested design with the latest in materials science.
S-87 Cowboy Shotgun

The S-87 is mechanically very similar to shotguns designed in the 1960s. It is semi-automatic, can hold 4 rounds in its internal magazine, and is designed to be simple to use.
History
Stellar Defense decided to enter into the 'home defense' shotgun market in 2304 as analysts found that the 'home shotgun' market segment appeared to be growing entirely on the strength of population growth causing an increase in this niche market. As there were numerous shotguns already on the market ranging from models developed as early as 1887 to more fully modern designs, but it was found that the individuals who purchase this type of weapon tended to prefer basic designs similar to those developed in the 1960s over more modern shotguns such as the UG-18. To differentiate itself from other offerings, Stellar Defense would decide to focus on materials science for their offering instead of trying to iterate on proven designs.
Their shotgun, the S-87, would be released in 2305 and was marketed as the most 'solid' shotgun on the market to civilians, and marketed as the 'most lightweight and reliable' shotgun towards the American Union military and Special Forces units.
The weapon would see small but reliable sales numbers throughout the early 2300s.
Layout
The S-87 is a highly conventional pump-action semi-automatic shotgun with an ammo tube. loading feed, and handle on the underside, with the barrel located on top. A basic pistol grip and stock are also included. The shotgun can also hold an additional magazine of ammo attached to the feed on the underside.
Civilian models of the shotgun include a weighted, wooden, grip and pump to make the weapon feel more rugged while military versions tend to use light weight composite materials and thermal-management coatings on the exterior.
