Unit CL-3715042
Personality
Cletis is the definition of a perfectionist. He takes pride in what he does and he won't accept it unless it is done perfectly. Give him stained cloth and he will sooner cut out the stain and weave back in clean fabric than say that the stain cannot be removed.
Despite being nearly a century old, humans would describe him as childish. He likes to play, has a limited understanding of social contexts and restraint, and gets excessively upset at failure.
Appearance
Cletis' form, as it stands, looks something akin to a water strider. Four legs spread out below his body at diagonals and end in adhesive pads for vertical locomotion. The center of his form is occupied primarily by a telescopic cylinder 2 ft in diameter, which when extended places him at 3 ft tall, and when retracted holds him at 2 ft. Half of the top face of the cylinder is occupied by a semicircular screen and a speaker. On the other half is a circular shutter which may open up into the hollow body. The base of the body, just above the legs, is rimmed with camera sensors, allowing for 360 degree vision. Additionally, shuttered recesses all along the sides and underside of the body give way to mechanical arms and tentacles wielding a variety of cleaning and sensory tools: claws, cameras, vacuums, brushes, etc.
Cletis has a royal blue chassis, interrupted by the lack dots of sensors and the color-coded shutters, which would identify what was held behind each one if one were to check his user manual. Cletis will often display an animated face on his monitor to make his form more relatable to organic lifeforms. Typically, this comes in the form of simple yellow shapes sufficient to display various expressions.
History
Initially, Cletis was owned by an American family in Atlantica. At first he was a simple cleaning bot with only so much cognitive ability as to allow him to perform his functions flexibly. For fun, the two children of the family had him upgraded to "full" - though low-functioning - sentience. Form here he became something of a pet and companion to the children and it was them who named him Cletis. Eventually the children grew, they didn't need a companion anymore, newer and better cleaning bots were made, and in Cletis was discarded. He would not have to consider, for the first time in his life, what he wanted to do. His answer came twofold: he wanted to clean, and he didn't want to be discarded again. In order to avoid that, he would have to become the best cleaner available.
Over the following decades, Cletis would wander about the map taking up work in any number of places. Having little need for food, shelter, or any of the other things which humans spend their money on, he would put all of his earnings towards maintenance and upgrades - including upgrading his cognition, allowing him to perform at and above the level of the average human.
Skills & Shortcomings
You won't find a better janitor! For almost a century he has collected data, augments, and upgrades to perfect the art of cleaning. However, he's not particularly good at anything else. His movement, while precise, is somewhat slow. He's managed to consistently upgrade himself mostly through the services of others, and is self-maintenance is mediocre.
