• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Buttersauce Roach

'Discovered' by the human population of Hawking in 2319, the Butter Sauce Roach is a crustacean common to the oceans of the planet Hawking

“We need to come up with an official name, we can't just call it a Butter Sauce Roach.” - Heram Wazu

The 'Butter Sauce Roach' can grow up to 4 feet long, and can vary in color from deep green to a light blue, though the tend to turn red when cooked. They have extremely strong tails used for rapidly dashing at prey. It also has 6 pairs of crab-like legs, with the frontmost legs ending in a chitinous spear used for catching fish or other small animals. All of these legs are about the same size and spread along the length of the body evenly. The top of the animal also is made from the same chitinous material as the spear tips, and frequently has to be shed as the animal grows.

The tail part of the animal most approximates the taste of Lobster. The legs taste somewhat like a firmer version of crab-meat. While the humans of Hawking have not been able to catalog much of the biodiversity of the planet, and as such aren't aware of many of the planet's species; the Grawla have known about the Butter Sauce Roach for thousands of years. The animal is a common food source for Aquatic Grawla, and is often hunted by laying out cage traps baited with small bits of fish.

History

It is not known when the Grawla first discovered this animal, but the humans of planet Hawking discovered it in 2319. At the request of Liu Bao, Frank Sterling dove into the waters near Fort Barrera to look for lobster which Bao described as a 'Butter Sauce Roach'. Instead Frank found a cage trap set out by local Grawla and brought it back to the ship.

During this entire incident, the Grawla were trying to drive the Human boat away by throwing fish at it.
