• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Armament:230mm Cannon, Rotary Machine Gun

History

Atlantica has a large amount of coastal territory, islands, and river-ways that make the usage of conventional tanks difficult due to issues like weight and ground pressure causing them to sink or get stuck in terrain line mud or sand. This resulted in the AM-120 having extremely wide tracks, long range, and amphibious capability. The inherently long ranges involved in littoral combat for attacking ships at sea or starships in low orbit necessitated the usage of a large 230mm ETC/rarefaction gun. This weapon can fire anti-ship or anti-satellite missiles as well as a range of more conventional projectiles.

In 2320 the entire stock of AM-120s on Atlantica were commandeered by Rear Admiral Willma Moreland for suppression of ‘Terrorist’ activity in the Hawking star system. The Berger’s low weight and wide treads would help with travel in low gravity, and a basic RCS system would be installed to help keep the vehicle grounded.

Layout

The AM-120 uses an unmanned turret with auto-loaders situated ontop of a more conventional style tank with two wide-treads and a crew-module in rear. The front and underside of the vehicle store fuel for the vehicle’s small fusion reactor which is situated in the center/underside of the vehicle itself.

Armor

The Berger's armor is mostly situated on the vehicle's front glacis plate, providing protection against the bulk of weapon systems expected to be carried by infantry and armored fighting vehicles.

The second thickest section of armor is located along the top of the vehicle and consists of an advanced Areogel and carbon-carbon composite well suited for protection from explosive fragmentation and laser weaponry. This is primarily designed to provide protection against artillery fire and orbit-to-surface weaponry so that the AM-120 can fulfill its anti-orbit and anti-ship role with its main cannon.

This leaves relatively light protection on the sides, rear, and underside of the vehicle. This was determined to be an acceptable risk as the areas where the AM-120 was expected to operate would not be likely to contain burred explosives and due to the liquidy terrain, it was unlikely that the AM-120 would encounter any vehicles more heavily armed or armored than itself.

Weapons

Compared to other combat vehicles, the AM-120 is very lightly armed, equipped with only a main cannon and a single machine-gun. While weapons better suited for close in combat would be preferable, this is the most armament the vehicle can reasonably carry while still being able to traverse the liquidy-terrain of the planet Atlantica.

230mm Cannon

Mounted in the main turret of the A120, the 230mm smoothbore rarefaction gun is designed to launch the largest projectile possible while still allowing the vehicle to traverse sandy, watery, and other difficult terrain. The large projectile size was necessary to fill the variety of roles needed for the vehicle including launching long range anti-ship missiles, fast moving anti-satellite weapons, large anti-structure explosives or powerful anti-tank projectiles. The large projectile size also means the weapon only carries 12 rounds in its side-mounted autoloader.

Rotary machine gun

Located to the side of the main cannon and just below the main optics, the A120 mounts a small coaxial rotary machine gun.

Namesake

The vehicle is named for David H Berger, a general responsible for transforming their military into a force that could handle warfare in and around island chains or shorelines.
