Accession Class Breaching Pod
The Accession is a ship to ship transport pod equipped with breaching tools and numerous fast-firing short ranged weapons. It is intended to be used by special-forces boarding parties to transit between a mother ship and a possibly hostile enemy craft so that it can dock with it or force an entry without destroying the target ship.
History
The Accession is a descendent of the portable airlock pods first employed by the American Union in 2199 during Operation Distant Flock. As the American Union's goals during Distant Flock was to secure and continue to operate the SLEs formerly under CCP control, the landing forces needed to bring along their own emergency airlock pods so that they could gain entry without killing anyone inside. The emergency airlock pods were unarmed, and would be converted by the soldiers using them to carry additional weapons and armor in case they were needed on approach.
The Accession is the latest in a long line of these portable airlock pods, developed in 2319 through a collaboration between Stellar Shipyards and The Magnetic Assembly. The target market was the large orbital policing and patrol market, as well as replacing older breaching pods in use throughout the American Union's ISOC forces.
After the New Years Revolution on Hawking, Stellar Shipyards would continue to develop and build their own versions of the pod and sell it on international markets. The Magnetic Assembly would also continued producing the pod albeit in small numbers.
