• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Type 12 Jian

The Jian is a traditional Chinese sword, that has seen numerous iterations on the same basic design for centuries. The Type 12 Jian uses the traditional Jian design, with materials and mechanical upgrades designed around creating a fashion and status symbol for the Daqin that can also double as cutting tool or weapon. The weapon's diamond edge and ultrasonic vibration allow it to cut through materials with ease, including armored space suits and people.

History

Ceremonial swords have been a part of human culture long before humanity left for the stars. Many human militaries incorporated them into various rituals, and the emerging Dìguó Jūnshì (帝国军事) was no different, preferring variations on the Jian. Though it was not enough for the Daqin to merely copy the tradition from their former masters, they needed to show that they could do it better than them in every way. The traditional Daqin Jian started to incorporate cutting edge materials science and technology to produce a massively overengineered cutting instrument.

The Type 12 Jian was first produced in 2312 in small numbers and was distributed to Daqin soldiers who had a high likelihood of interacting with their Human counterparts. The high quality of construction and user customization made the weapon popular for Daqin who like to visibly show off while the transparent artificial diamond cutting surface and ultrasonic vibrations made the sword great for showing off its superior cutting ability as to the human eye it can seem like the blade is cutting through material without even touching it.

Layout

The outer edge of the blade is built from high quality, transparent, artificial diamond making it possibly the hardest material that can be constructed. This hardness makes it fantastic at holding an edge and cutting through other high strength materials like leather and kevlar. The blade itself is made out of multiple small interlocking Diamond pieces to create an incredibly sharp, micro-serrated, edge.

The core of the blade houses the electrical motor and counter-weight that create ultrasonic vibrations and doubles as the battery that stores energy for the weapon. This makes the weapon considerably heavier than other ultralight blades but still not heavier than a conventional steel sword. The edge of the blade and counterweight are attached to the core of the blade so that they are microscopically separated from the hilt, preventing the vibrations from being transferred into the user's hand while holding it.

The hilt of the blade houses the electronics for the system, including the wireless interface and pressure sensors allowing the owning Daqin to enable or disable the blade in a variety of ways.

Ammunition

The Type 12 Jian uses electricity, and can store 10 minutes worth of charge internally. It can be charged wirelessly or through a plug in the base of the hilt.
