The Grönskande System (swedish for "Verdant") is an independent system located between the Silbern and Yasny systems, housing a variety of colonies with their origins in the GDW. In 2277 a variety of political and ideological factors led to a few GDW members splitting off from what was perceived as a bureaucratically overburneded and econo-politically stifling goverment to seek greener pastures in Grönskande's promising worlds that had been scoped out for colonization efforts a decade ago. Concerns over how the SSM would react and the perceived cost of colonization efforts remained a hot button topic excacerbated by growing dissatisfaction on certain periphery worlds about their treatment by the administration.

After a series of tumultuous political upheavals, violent riots, and accusations of manipulated elections, an exodus of both material and manpower began propped up by a variety of corporate figureheads and firebrand politicians took place. While on the grand scale it was far from crippling for the GDW, the controversy it generated occasionally causes the mere mention of its name to accelerate arguments into altercations in certain corners of the periphery.

In spite of its fierce and some might say chest-thumpingly arrogant emphasis on independence, many of the industrial powerhouses propping up the system maintain a variety of links to the business sector of the GDW. While initial settlement and resource mining allowed the colonies to quickly establish themselves as a growing economic power and attract many investors, the fraying of the various alliances between the private sector and the multi-party alliances (themselves gradually beginning to butt heads once more) has arguably squandered a healthy degree of the movment's initial potential. True independence has still not been achieved which leads to tense though not hostile relationships with the GDW, seemingly stuck in a series of prickly negotiations over trade and representation.
