History

The S8 Project was started in mid-2320 as The Magnetic Assembly started to figure out how it would carry out military operations in the future. This would include an increasing amount of research put into weapons development, which opened up funding for smaller groups like The Continuous Wave to try and develop their own contributions to the developing provisional fleet. This manifested as the S8 series starship, made from a half finished design from Heram Wazu that would be modified with a payload section for containerized modules and a large radiator fin to service a spinal mounted weapon system.

The ship itself would be kept near the Gas Giant Bruno for the majority of 2320 and into 2321 to use as a weapon system testbed, as engineers tried to adapt stealth technology to the Blue Dividend weapon with minimal success.

Radiator

The main body of the craft is made up of two large radiator wings that circulate reaction mass through the craft in order to cool it down. They also serve as a structural support to connect the rest of the craft's components to.

RCS Thrusters

Located on the sides of the craft, the two small RCS clusters are undersized for what the S8 needs and were added more as an afterthought, making docking the craft with another craft difficult without the assistance of tug craft.

Container Modules

Located near the middle of the craft are 12 spaces for containerized component modules, 6 on either side of the craft, with all of them facing forward.

Weapon System

Located along the spine of the ship is the area for the ship's main weapon system, the Blue Dividend Coilgun.

Engine Section


The engine section of the ship houses 18 containerized engine modules and 18 containerized reaction mass storage containers along with three large reserve tanks for reaction mass and the 3 reactors the ship uses to power its weapon system.

Blue Dividend Coilgun


This coilgun is a research project used to fire large payloads, specifically stealth rounds designed to avoid detection by enemy sensors. The effectiveness of such a system is debated, and is believed to be of use only in fringe situations.
