• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Reiss

Reiss is a small planetoid at the edge of the Hawking star system. It houses the Magnetic Assembly's SuperLuminal Engine used to send starships between star systems as well as a large laser array used for pushing objects around inside of the star system.

History

2320

Reiss was the sight of the first battle of the Hawking Systems' secession from the American Union when a fleet of 6 Statesmen class ships commanded by read admiral Wilma Westmoreland arrived from the Atlantica system to assert control of the Superluminal Engine ( SLE ) on Reiss. They were met by the Edward Deming, whose crew used a combination of drones, planet-side lasers, and electronic warfare to destroy or capture the attacking ships.

Locations

SLE Orbits

Traffic near Reiss is heavily restricted due to the nature of the SuperLuminal Engine built around the planet. Massive fusion reactors dot the surface of the planet with fields of power transmission systems to support the cloud of artificial satellites that make up the Engine itself. These Satellites work together to form a Fresnel Lens for the generation of a SuperLuminal event. This requires close co-ordination between the entire constellation, so travel close to Reiss itself is heavily restricted.

L2 Lagrange Point

The Lagrange point furthest from Reiss, and best positioned to manage transit of ships in and out of the star system. The majority of the stations that support the SLE are parked in this orbit.

Economy

Due to the distance from everything, Reiss largely has to have a self-sufficient economy. Food and basic quality of life items are produced locally, though fusion fuels and raw materials have to be imported from further in the system. The system's primary industry is the SLE, importing data and people from other star system and helping distribute it throughout Hawking. This has also led to a growing industry of entertainment and IP management groups that operate out of the stations of Reiss.
