• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Orcus

O r c u s

The second SLE constructed by humankind; this structure is set into the dwarf planet Orcus, which has been moved to an orbit opposite of Pluto. It is owned and operated by the Soyuz, which maintains a constant presence in the form of a specialised customs fleet - composed of repurposed military vessels and mobile logistics platforms.

Overview

The Orcus SLE services only one line of travel, propelling ships from the Sol system towards Yasny. Due to a discrepancy in effective range between origin and destination, Orcus is set apart by its powerful microwave energy framework which is used to compound initial velocity of the vessel on launch. Without it, ships would coast to a sub-FTL drift before reaching the system, adding unpredictable delays to arrival into Yasny. With the introduction of the Chukotka-2 SLE in Yasny, navigators no longer have to rely on pinpoint mathematics to successfully make it to other Soyuz colonies, as it drags them through the SLE window from its Orcus launch trajectory.

At present, Orcus forms part of the transit corridor agreed between the governments of Soyuz and the Magnetic Assembly, to allow the latter access to Earth without being impeded by hostile territories of the AU.
