• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Mochizuki Reina (望月怜奈) is a moderately known Daqinese Medical Expert and Biologist from Kaguya Station (輝夜). Caring to a fault and a little old fashioned in her sensibilities, she runs a self-made practice and has been known to waive costs for those less fortunate or shelter those in dire circumstances. Not even a year ago (2324 CE), she provided free and constant medical treatment to the survivors of the ”Wicked Spike” collision, a high speed, high mass collision of unknown space debris on the relative south quarter of the Lower Class Residential District of Kaguya Station (輝夜). Though she would probably prefer otherwise, something about her has recently caught the Empress’s eye, giving her an… “invitation” to a certain mission.

(Played by NecroDrake.)

Personality

Very laidback and pondering even for a Daqinren, Reina appears somewhat lazy and slow in decision making, taking careful consideration to her general approach. Her interests and curiosities or critical situations are the few things that can kick her into high gear, allowing her to show a surprising amount of energy, precision, and speed when faced with such. When it comes to others, she tends to have a motherly attitude towards her patients or acquaintances, doting on them in a caring way… though, its unsure if this is due to her training or how she actually is. Generally she is very slow to anger, but is very precise, focused, and maybe a little vindictive when pushed to that extreme, likened to an exceedingly hot scalpel slowly cutting through with pinpoint accuracy, causing just enough pain to get her point across and to warn about her ability to go farther should the need present itself.

Interests

Reina likes sweets, tea, old age tea culture (yes, that’s a thing), reading (old fashioned, she knows), the occasional vr drama, listening to loud Rock music, and whatever vr game is currently in fashion (though she’s never really good at those…).

She also likes exploring in unknown or little understood aspects of xenobiology and has more than a passing interest in magic, despite its dangers.

Appearance

  • Build: Shapely and presenting a conventional hourglass figure, Reina boasts larger than normal chemical-precursor glands and storage sacks, presenting prominently on her frame.
  • Facial Features: Modeled after the Komodo Island Pit Viper, Reina sports a slight diamond shape to her head, a wide snout/jaw, Gold-yellow eyes that seem to have a light all their own, and a blue complexion that made the original snake quite popular in some circles. An uncommon addition to snake forms, Reina also has fluffy eyelashes that seem to somehow have a “softening” effect on her facial expressions.
  • Hair Style: “Bald? What an uncouth thing to say to a lady."
  • Distinguishing Features: A gene altered birthmark features prominently on her back, showing the Mochizuki family crest: a faded moon with a 4 pointed star at its center, all in black.

History

Born to the Mochizuki Clan in 2295 CE, Reina’s life was not her own, everything planned and laid out before her. Not even her birth was left to chance, splicing her genes so that she might better serve her role in the family. Her Mother, matriarch of the clan at the time, needed someone with advanced medical knowledge in her employ… so, she made one, subjecting her own daughter to that designated fate in a bid for loyalty based purely on blood.

Reina’s life was filled with strict regimens and practical study to reinforce the several lifetimes of medical knowledge and theory that was uploaded to her brain. Little was given in the way of choice, with even little freedoms seen as a distraction from her purpose. Rebellion was unthinkable, as all time she had was given over to the Clan and what she was made for… until a plague had stricken the populace of Kaguya Station (輝夜), Reina’s birthplace and home.

The Mochizuki saw this as an opportunity to flaunt their power and to gain more political connections by exploiting Reina’s cultivated abilities. Her leash was loosened slightly for the purpose of being more flexible in this endeavor, but it was enough. Reina got to see freedoms she had never experienced before and the horrors that the plague had wrought upon the populace, both high and low. The upper class she was sent to treated her with caution and curiosity both, as not much was known about her outside her family at the time. The lower class that could afford her services or otherwise give her family the best chance at a good image, treated her with reverence and an unexpected warmth that stuck with her. Through this, she started to form small connections here and there and… started to think about her life… what she actually wanted to do. Want and resentment bred ideas that formed her own plans for her future, one where she controlled her own life and did as she pleased.

Unknown to the powers that be on Kaguya Station (輝夜) at the time, the Mochizuki Clan, though prominent and powerful, was always looking for ways to increase their influence on the station, even by means that were less than legal and definitely morally bankrupt. As the head had said, “Everything for our wishes, we must find our Light, even if it means to be tainted by Darkness.”

One such “Darkness,” was the spread of specific illegal drugs whose purpose was to both make a profit, spread general unrest, and to frame rival clans as to oust them, allowing the Mochizuki to increase their influence via filling the void the ousted clans left in their wake. Through careful and relatively secret cultivation of her connections, Reina was able to gain the trust of several prominent clans on the station and secret away proof by which her own clan committed wrong doings. When the time was right, she obtained temporary asylum and protections of these clans and finally released the evidence as to her own clan’s wrongdoings. Governmental action was swift, but not entirely successful. Much of the Mochizuki Clan was tried, found guilty, and sent away for punishment, however, many of the clan’s higher-ups either fled the station or used their influence to escape prosecution. Regardless, the clan had lost its favor and much of its power. Reina was finally free!

Over the next few years, things happened quickly for the now doctor. Reina formed a practice, helped the station through minor and major tragedies alike (see “Wicked Spike” Collision), and formed a reputation for her overall compassion and attempts to bridge ideologies across the class divide… even if that did come with her own misunderstandings sometimes. She was her own person, able to choose for herself, help the people she wanted, and pursue her own goals. However… for whatever reason, her small renown had caught the interest of the Empress. This came in the form of an “invitation” to a certain mission…

Skills

  • Medical Expertise: A “prodigy” in most respects. The thing she was made for. The skills and knowledge she is making her own, separate from her family’s control.
  • General Biology: More than an interest, it helps her with her general practice. Knowing a lot about life and its functions, even life different from your own, can help make accurate leaps of logic when applying medical knowledge and scientific practices.
  • General Chemistry: Another building block. Helps with the creation of medicines and useful drugs… but may help with other things given a situation.
  • Psychology: “Know your patients. Know the people around you… All the better to keep people calm and collected… and if that fails, compliant… but I shouldn’t think like my mother…”
  • Basic Combat and Survival: On the tin. Was given basic training to defend herself and to keep alive should something happen… killing is a no go unless there is little other choice.

Traits

  • Compassionate: Treats most people with respect and consideration, trying to help where she can and when it would make the most sense.
  • Patient: “Don’t get short with people just because they aren’t moving to your beat. Take a minute, listen, and understand.”
  • Driven: To her, goals and interests are made to be pursued. Keep your focus on the things you want, and always takes steps to accomplish them.
  • ”Lazy”: …Lacking a defined goal, torn away from her interests, or stuck in a situation she doesn’t like, leaves her with little energy to do anything about it.
  • Contrarian: Though, not always against popular opinion, she tends to cleave to older ways of thinking.
  • Pondering: Gets stuck in her own head quite a bit, either thinking things a little too thoroughly or daydreaming about something.
