• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

IDS Yīnghuā - Log 4.0: Frog at the Bottom of the Well (井底之蛙)

"Shit..." Reina lines up a shot with her sidearm and also fires into the two many limbed creatures, being careful to not aim near Xian. She aims to have more accurate shots, firing into where she can kinda make out their bodies due to her senses, rather than unloading as much as she can.

"Feel like maybe fire would be more appropriate for this... I would also recommend explosives, but I'm not comfortable setting anything off in here while we're underground... Look how many legs/arms those things have! Its making my scales crawl."

In VR she also taps into others feeds so she has a clearer picture. She is slightly distracted by the clown show that is currently ongoing in here though... "What are you two doing? Hold off on the comedy routine till we can stop those things from trying to eat us!"

Wen slight changed tactics. Unlikely that there were more than these two large monstrosities, and finding his leg working again, he dashed behind a rock or a trunk-equivalent in this area for concealment, stowing away his blade in exchange for a spare magazine at the ready. He would fire another burst gyrojets, this time programming them to aim where he thought their brains were. These things were too large to destroy all of their sensory organs in a timely manner, too much surface area to burn before Xian was skewered. He had plenty of questions again, but one thing he determined to bring along next time was a couple of expendable anti-tank launchers. That was an error on his end. He should've realized that the days of nimble special forces tactics against catonite-empowered creatures was over. From now on they needed heavy firepower.

"I don't like spiders, okay?!" Hoshiko shouted back at Reina. She coughed in embarrassment and lowered her voice as Jun's udders slowed to a stop. "We're supposed to express ourselves here in virtuality, and it's not like I'm panicking in meatspace," the tiger princess pointed out, cheeks blushing at her earlier outburst. "Something, something, the scary invincible kind...."

Withering fire leaped up from the special forces team and into the airliner sized monstrosities, and as chitinous plate cracked and flaked, blue blood spewed out as their constant probing finally found purchase! Reina's careful shots popped eye clusters like oversized melons, while Wen's programmed rounds followed in close behind - a gush of gore spilled out, causing the enormity to recoil back. Spiked limbs folded and unfolded as smaller arms rubbed at the already bubbling, regenerating mass of hemolymph. The random jabs and grabs the Daqin were facing dropped by half, but the other remaining creature on the right settled an eyecluster on Jun!

"Well, as you grow up to be big and strong, it will be less of a drain on you," Lucifer encouraged Jun. Monstrous spiked limbs leaped down at the two with terrifying speed! Only, they stopped mid-air as though slipping off an invisible, bouncy ball around the two. "And it's like...getting a herd animal with herd-animal-pox, and poking yourself with a lance covered in that animal's pus so you don't get the whatever-you-are-pox," the avian alien tried to explain to the Daqin heifer. The arachnid menace attempted to grapple the two with increasing impatience. Dust kicked up off the hollow's floor as its grasp continued to slip, and its attention on the other Daqin dropped entirely. "...what I mean is, it is the sort of thing that protects you from something really bad that you can't see," it tried to tell Jun again, crossing a pair of its feathered arms over its chest in annoyance.

The abomination that wasn't rubbing one of its many injured eye clusters stopped and began waving its arms at the other, which sharply turned to look.

"No." Hoshiko un-camouflaged and crept up behind Jun and Lucifer for cover. Laser gun still hot from firing, she watched as the other one on the left of the hollow's ceiling waved its limbs back.

Xian had a moment to recover and think now that she had put some distance between herself and the creatures. She had superior strength and speed, she should be able to fight them head on easily enough. Her instinct was to charge in, but getting in between the creatures and the weapons fire from the rest of the squad wasn't appealing.

Instead she'd also go over to Jun to retrieve her weapon.

Jun who was currently waving the beam around, moving it over to the other creature and shooting it center-mass. The gunner in Jun's virtuality handling that as she continued to talk with Lucifer, "Ok Luci, lot of words there that don't give me confidence that this thing won't invert my organs or turn me into Jello. Double-so since you're just now showing us we need to turn it on or whatever before it can do whatever its supposed to be doing."

"That's fine a lot of people don't like spiders, you can always put a filter on it so that they don't look like spiders." Jun would bring up a window in the virtuality showing Hoshiko's point of view of the spiders, and then she'd overlay a Yassification filter on it to make the spiders look like they had long blonde hair and makeup and also kinda like they were floating heads with weird arms. "100% this is how I got through mid-level geology. Remember that class with the creepy-gross professor? Boom. Filters. I didn't feel like throwing up once when he talked to me."
