• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Zhànshòu

Though using the Chǒngwù (寵物) as a base, the Zhànshòu (戰獸) are War Beasts made strictly for combat or combat adjacent roles within the Dìguó Jūnshì (帝国军事). Varying greatly in form, they can be as simple as animals modified for reconnaissance and harassment, such as owls, bats and even swarms of wasps. On the other, more extreme end, the things weighing in would include sub-sapient, armor clad, gun wielding gorillas. Despite their base appearances, these latter abominations are best thought of as battle droids made out of unfortunate amounts of flesh and blood. Though not the quickest to be produced or lowest maintenance options available, they are important for being the most affordable, as they use far less rare earth metals and other valuable materials in their production.

  • Ròu Jī (肉機 - Meat Machine): Consisting of nothing more than non-sapient Chongwu being taken and used for combat, these 'meat machines' are most often specific animals that are best suited for reconnaissance as a low-cost measure. For example, birds of prey such as eagles and falcons are used for general purpose aerial observation, as they have superb vision that is often quickly enhanced with infrared and ultraviolet perception as well. Meanwhile, bats are used for their ability to gather audio recordings, map out areas using ultrasound, and navigate in complete darkness. Owls in particular though, are most useful for their complete and utter lack of sound during flight. The humble hamster, typically of coloration to fit the environment, can be tasked with traveling for miles to discreetly gather information from the ground after its vision has been enhanced.
  • Yǐn Zhǎo (隱爪 - Hidden Claw): A dedicated ground based reconnaissance platform, the Hidden Claw is a reptilian chimera that roughly resembles a small dog sized velociraptor. Its sight, hearing, and sense of smell are superb, and its collapsible frill can be both used for echolocation and as a radar emitter-receiver. A third 'eye' can also be used as a laser emitter for both communication and as warning receiver. Though it comes with bio-engineered thermoptic camouflage, operating temperatures directly affect its performance, with hotter temperatures overclocking its abilities and colder temperatures reducing its speed. Despite being unintended for combat, its hardened alloy beak and claws can be used offensively, especially when swarming an isolated soldier.
  • Tiān Zhǎo (天爪 - Heavenly Claw): A general purpose aerial recon and disposable attack platform, the Heavenly Claw is a lab made chimera with thermoptic camouflage, high-speed silent-flight and a light anti-tank explosive inside its body. Though its full thermal stealth has a limited operational time, its feathers can be set to radiate heat above or below its body while in flight indefinitely. These same feathers are configured in the same manner as an owl's for silent flight. Underneath the feathers, the skin possesses patches of radio receiving-emitting organs that act together as a phased array radar. The creature features a total of four eyes, with an additional eye above and below its head. These additional eyes in particular are engineered to serve as laser emitter-receivers for communication and warning, in addition to observation. In combat, the Heavenly Claw is meant to intercept and destroy enemy drones using its long, retractable, armored legs and claws, or detonate the fragment lined shaped charge on impact against a target.
