• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Type 89 Close Combat Drone

The Type 89 Close Combat Drone is used by the Dìguó Jūnshì of the Empire of Daqin, and came into service in 2289 CE. Being a simple, straightforward model, it has only seen minor modifications and improvements over its lifespan. It is roughly the size of the typical housecat, but with long, arachnid inspired legs.

Almost spider-like in design, the stripped down and simple, lightweight drone contains the bare essentials necessary for its job. This includes basic EMP hardening, micro-fusion reactor, plasma cutter, sensors and a second pair of long, spindly limbs that are folded out of the way when not in use. Deployed in large numbers to compensate for their cheap, disposable and unarmored nature, the Close Combat Drones are meant to assault a variety of threats. This includes running and leaping onto unsuspecting enemy personnel, as well as larger combat drones or vehicles, latching on and causing large amounts of damage with their plasma cutters. For a drone, its programming and fuzzy logic tree is complex, allowing it to quickly and intelligently provide support. Individual Daqinren soldiers typically command small swarms of these drones wirelessly. As extensions of their body, these are used in conjunction with other models to screen for soldiers and provide both offensive and defensive capabilities. The latter includes interception of certain hostile attacks, including missiles and various other slower moving projectiles by leaping up to intercept with their bodies.
