• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

The Consolidation

'The Consolidation' refers to a nebulous time period between ~2060 and ~2117 where the major powers of earth began consolidating other nations into there sphere of influence. A number of factors are responsible for this, most notably the Global Biodiversity Collapse devastating many nations combined with Fusion Power which was available only to the most technologically advanced major nations. These nations already had outsized influence over smaller nations for various military and economic reasons, and these additional factors made relationships between nations dramatically uneven.

This would result in creation of the various super-nations, The American Union, GDW, Soyuz, etc.

These pressures would only accelerate until close to 2117 when these pressures started to dissipate. This is in part due to the recovery efforts on Earth, and in part to various groups desperate for the promise of a new life on other worlds.
