History
Ice-Crawler is a generic term for a range of articulated 8x8 vehicles developed from ice-exploration vehicles originally used in the arctic and Antarctic areas on Earth. While originally configured for long term exploration of areas in extreme cold they would eventually be updated to better accommodate the hostile wildlife of Kitezh. By 2320 many of the hulls are decades old, having been constantly maintained in the freezing temperatures of Kitezh. The Ice Crawler was designed for the icey climate of Kitzeh, and for long duration missions without support. Its oversized tires provide sufficient buoyancy to float, allowing it to cross dangerous thin ice areas and the Hybrid electric drive system allows the vehicle to refill its batteries off just about any combustible fluid, oil, biofuel, solar energy, or microwave-energy-transmission.
Internally there is enough space for 4 people to comfortably live and work including small bunks, galley, and workspace. The rear section of the craft is sectioned off from the front by a heavy airlock style door which allows the rear section of the vehicle to be isolated off from the front in the event that the crew wants to carry dangerous samples or allow possibly-infected people onboard in a quarantine like fashion.
