Brief
Gosudarstvennaya Sluzhba Zdorov'ya i Meditsiny (Russian: Государственная Служба Здоровья и Медицины - ГСЗМ), otherwise known as the State Service of Health and Medicine, commonly abbreviated to 'GEZEM'. It is a CCM state-owned institution which is responsible for facilitating national healthcare, development of medical equipment, pharmaceuticals and limited chemical production within the CCM.
History
During the 2130s, the CCM developed an acute nation-wide healthcare crisis. The use of newly developed compounds and hazardous materials in the space industry in the early 2100 resulted in delayed health issues, deformations and newly discovered genetic disorders. With a large portion of the CCM population making use of space infrastructure at the time, the immense public pressure that mounted in demand for treatment and medicaments far exceeded that which existing hospitals and laboratories were able to cope with. With CCM governing bodies and industries unable to fully catch up with a solution for some 30 years and the body count still rising, the CNS, with consultation from leading medical professionals, declared the commencement of the eugenics programme as a resolution to the crisis. To rehabilitate and regulate individuals affected by genetic abnormality, chronic illness or deformities, the state introduced GEZEM.
Following successful resolution of the crisis with the next generation, the CNS granted the abundance of medical equipment, facilities and treatment infrastructure that were left from the legacy healthcare system to GEZEM; national healthcare was reintroduced shortly after as the State attempted to uphold the Soviet spirit in reparation of dark times.
