Containerized Laser Weapon System

Lasing systems, combined optic array, cooling pumps, and control equipment all packed into a single container. This system is capable of acquiring targets, lasing targets, and transmitting laser-based communications on its own though usage for any real duration requires external cooling. Large banks of these containers are used in the S2 Series Starship and S4 Series Starship to destroy targets at incredible range.

History

In 2309 the S1 Series Starship was developed, initiating a radical change in style and technology that would start to permeate through The Magnetic Assembly and the American Union. This new focus on modularity would push further down in the design than ever before, with the focus going far beyond just 'mission-modules' and all the way down to individual components. The Containerized Laser Weapon System came from this push and resulted exactly what the name implies: A containerized laser weapon systems that can be used for a variety of tasks.

Large numbers of the laser system were produced for use as part of long range laser communication systems, and stockpiled for use in S1, and eventually S2/S4 series starships allowing The Magnetic Assembly to quickly convert its civilian fleet into armed warships should the need arise.

In 2320, the New Years Revolution would end up showing the usefulness of this design strategy. Though the majority of ships were stockpiled full of missiles, often S4 series ships would also house an array of these laser systems to support long range missile strikes.

Layout

The CLWS's front section houses 6 large optics that focus the energy generated by the lasing systems that make up the bulk of the container. The center of the container itself houses the computer control and energy storage systems of the device and the rear houses the pumps and coolant for the whole system.

Like all containerized component systems, power, coolant, and data connections are located on the back.

Ammunition

The Containerized Laser Weapon System is electrically powered. Though it can hold 10 seconds worth of operation internally, an external power source is required for continuous use.
