CCM Officer Knife
A standard issue of Soyuz military personnel, the Officer Knife is a partially serrated heavy blade. Its handle contains an integrated multitool, making it suitable for a variety of uses outside combat.
History
Arising out of the naval kortik tradition, the granting of the Officer Knife became a general ceremony across all military and police sectors in 2104 CE, shortly after the reformation of the MoD. The original design emerged from the Kalashnikov Group, which experienced several modifications after troop feedback in field testing. With improvements implemented and contract granted by the MoD, the Kalashnikov Group began mass production. The final version was first granted to fresh graduates from Officer academies all across Soyuz territories in 2104 CE, which would be retained by the respective Officer for the entirety of their career. In the 2320s, several of those original knives issued are exhibited at museums across the CCM, along with few very rare physical exemplars of its prototype design. It is a prestige for a family to hold multiple Officer knives among its possessions, denoting their legacy's dedication to the defence of their country and people.
Specification & Uses
The Officer knife is primarily intended for combat purposes, possessing a durable edge and serrated half-length to offer slicing, tearing and splitting capability. With the nose of the knife holding an emphasised mass, the wielder is able to comfortably use it for chopping and throwing, which accommodates the blade's characteristics in causing a variety of local damage types. The spine of the blade is flattened and safe to hold, allowing for a more precise touch by using one's palm to press the blade down when making a cut. The handle hosts rubberized composites and finger curving to allow for a comfortable, stable hold at all points of use; with added upper protection provided by a guard.
Among veterans, the knife finds popular use in hunting. Skinning and gutting are made easy provided that the blade edge is well maintained by its owner. Greater precision can be achieved using the smaller tools concealed within the handle, which includes smaller blades, hooks and wound nylon string. For more industrial purposes, the multitool component also offers standard screwdrivers and an adjustable wrench. While the multitool grants the knife a more universal life, the smaller components are known to be proportionately fragile - leaving it as a backup option in the absence of proper tools. Kitezhan field engineers found it particularly useful in chopping ice from fragile devices and vehicle rotors, confirming its long-term robustness and improvised potential.
The usefulness of an Officer knife depends on its wielder, as official instructions are exhaustive.
