• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

The United Erinun States' Ang'pi (Iron Wasp) class gunship is part of the Aos Si nation's modernization efforts, to dominate its less industrialized neighbors. Borrowing and stealing designs from the human nation on the planet, Commonwealth of the Dawn, the Ang'Pi was first successfully flown in 2293. True to Aos Si connection with nature, the Ang'Pi closely resembles the "wasp"-analog found on the planet, its "head" consisting of the cockpit and limited infrared sensors, the "thorax" holding the hydro-carbon engine, a pair of rotors and airfoils that allow the gunship to hover mid-flight, and the "abdomen" consisting the fuel and ammo storage, a low-caliber autocannon underslung beneath. The entire frame is typically painted in black and bright neon green stripes, contrasting against the red vegetation of the planet, an obvious, harrowing sight to its targets.

The Ang'Pi first saw service in the 2300's on the Gui Continent, as part of the UES' efforts to project power beyond its home continent of Jing. In its first combat mission, two Ang'Pis massacred an entire claw of Aos Si, still using spears, shields, and bolt action rifles, advancing in a line across a wide patch of clear land. Combined with other UES assets, the Ang'Pi helped bring conflict to an end in the region, but not before raising alarm bells in the Ethunin hierarchy, warning them of the UES' technological superiority and ability to project power across the planet.

The thought behind this write up came from the thought that we're unlikely to see WWII, cold war, and modern war scenarios amongst the human factions in the setting as the human combat doctrine relies on drones, long range missiles, and small groups of highly trained teams. If humans do conduct ground wars, it'll mostly be one-sided victories with overwhelming air-space supremacy. Peer to peer wars will primarily involve obtaining said supremacy and forcing a surrender afterwards.

However, with aliens such as the Aos Si and Grawla, this technological advancement isn't quite there yet, thus we can see modern or pre-modern equipment and doctrine, spun in ways that fit their culture.
