• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

United Erinun States, and other thoughts on the Aos Si

The UES name themselves "the first born", considering themselves to be the first enlightened with the reality of their world, that magic has diminished and they must use technology to survive. Still, they're quite religious and environmentalist by human standards, worshipping an pantheon of gods whom they deem guide the flow of nature, with the more extreme members of their society being agnostic, influenced the more atheistic Mandarins amongst the humans on the planet.

A superficial glance at the Aos Si on Zhuque will make them seem homogenous, but that couldn't be further from the truth. At least eight primary languages and ethnicities amongst the Aos Si have been identified, the primary group that have been integrated the deepest into human society being those of the Continent Liu, belonging to the ethnic and language group Goedwig.

The Aos Si's long lifespan, even in the absence of magic, and their general, cool demeanor would lead one to believe that they are above the squabbling nature of humanity, the basic, tribal instincts. However, that couldn't be further from the truth. The dwindling magical resources, limited arable land, and ethnic differences have made the Aos Si quite vicious towards one another. Human arrival on the planet only exacerbated the conflicts. Aos Si fought over attitudes towards the humans, and those who sought good will with the humans competed over the technological aid they provided to the Aos Si. Until the late 23rd century, humans were also actively sowing dissent amongst the Aos Si to keep them fighting each other instead of them. Even after reformation into the HFR and humanitarian aid increased, Aos Si conflict over resources and ethnic supremacy was allowed to continue, to the blissful, purposeful ignorance of humans.

The UES' modernization has come at a political and cultural cost. In order to minimize their damage to the environment, damage that carries great religious burdens, the UES relies heavily on carbon scrubbers and detoxification catalysts for their factories. Mining operations require expensive, precision equipment and restoration funds. All of these expenses forces the UES to make trade agreements with the humans, as the humans do have those technologies and the exotic metals that create them, through the extensive human space mining efforts.

Independence from human technology pushes the agnostic movement in the UES more than any other factor. They argue that lessening the environmental protection protocols will speed up industry and less reliance on the humans.

Dystopic, smog ridden cities in the UES do not exist. Neither does grim working conditions, polluted rivers, garbage mountains; the priests in the UES have sought that preventative regulations are created and implemented. Rather, the sinister reality is invisible in the UES: soft, alien, human control over the state through smiles, respect, and official, non-intervention. Elsewhere, beyond the UES' borders, the UES has enacted, precise, extreme violence on its neighbors, those who resist its Aos Si modernization efforts and cause trouble.
