• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Chapter 6: Taming a Giant

Safe bet is to just stand back and let the missiles do their work and then pick over the pieces, Beatrix said, frowning as she looked at the situation. But if that was an option, we wouldn't have tried to board them in the first place. Fuck.

"Okay, new plan," she told the people in the boarding pod. "No reason to try and hold the ship, so same order, but we're just going in, grabbing our target, then heading right back out. Mari," she continued, looking at the nearest drone, "Do you know where our target will be? We're three minutes out."

Mari was downloading a stream of comm chatter coming from the Giant. It was primary confusion, engineering asking the bridge to confirm the pressure drop, the bridge asking back if the engine was really on fire. There was further doubt on the request for Selene Rosica to move to the airlock; instead she was ordered, in person, to move to the center of the ship, as far away from the outer hulls as possible. The last straw for the bridge crew was when a remote control request out of nowhere arrived to them. After an angry curse, Mari was finally detected and locked out of the system, when the previous panicked voice was routed through the comms to Mari and the Lancers:

"Whoever you are, we don't appreciate being hacked. Are you here to help us or not? Yes or no." The voice was still panicked, but more tempered and frustrated.

It seemed her efforts to gain control of the ship had been frustrated, but you couldn't win them all with so little time. "She's being moved around the ship. I'll overlay her location on your maps." Mari said, her mechanical voice being followed by a soft ping as she started pushing data to the Lancer's devices. Even being kicked out of their system, she could still track user's personal devices.

"So, what would the Giant know about us?" Beatrix asked Eberhard, trying to think through how to respond. "Like, can we try tricking them into thinking we're here to help them extract?"
