• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

It was like slow motion as Lars watched the shot hit Korofi straight in the chest. He swore under his breath, trying to work out the best way to get over to him. However, Rafael seemed to have reached him already. At the shout for another grenade, Lars retreated around the corner and took a...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Lars found himself impressed by his own aim, still continuing to fire as a small smirk graced his face. He still had his old skills, and he was happy. When he had left the military, Lars' old commander had wasted no time telling him that he would lose his skills as soon as he stopped practicing...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Lars was glad to be backed up by Jurgen in his response to Korofi, moving to approach the outside aisles. He was about to respond to Jurgen's inquiry when the thud of a door reached his ears. He paused momentarily, civilian brain taking over, before remembering his training and continuing with...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

The sweep of the room had gone well, but it was then that Lars noticed a small vent in the top corner of the room, situated just behind where he had shot at the creature from. He headed over, stacking a few boxes before hoisting himself up, flicking on his torchlight. Lars heard the crackling...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Lars couldn’t help but notice that the creature didn’t like being shot in the head. He wouldn’t either, but it was exceptionally annoying for the sharpshooter. “Kom her, din lille skidespræller…” he murmured, tracking the creature until he was able to find a clear shot. His finger inched...

    Chapter 6: Taming a Giant

Renee silently slunk out of the room, heading to to join the crew that was manning the guns. As she entered the room, still equipped with her mask, she earned a few odd looks, but the majority of people seemed to be more concerned about the fight... and some orders that they had just received...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

The figure at the back of the room moved imperceptibly, crouching down in a fluid movement. His outline was murky, aided by the shadows and his black clothing, and the fact that he was now half hidden by one of the partitions as he flicked the mount open at the top of the barrel of the sniper...

    Chapter 6: Taming a Giant

Copperhead afforded Bee a nod, shifting her position slightly so that her stance was wider as she stared at the schematic. "What communication channels will be open?" she asked. Would there be talk with the marines, with the Dwaheim Zwei, any other ships?

    Chapter 6: Taming a Giant

Renee's arm was back to normal now, bar the occasional nervous twinge and ache. It was a rare enough occurrence for Renee to be billed at full health. In the remaining time, she had been practicing her situational responses, ashamed at herself for how she had dealt with the robots. She would...

    Chapter 5: Voidward Preparations

Eberhard was correct. Even the cast itself was advanced, constantly pumping a protein-painkiller mix into Renee's arm without impairing her cognitive function. She speculated that the pain would be nothing but a dull ache by the time that they even embarked upon the Daheim Zwei. As Eberhard...

    Chapter 5: Voidward Preparations

Renee blinked at Mari and shifted uncomfortably. "Ideally I would have... two functional arms. But that is not possible at this current stage. At least... half of us have some sort of injury, I believe," she concluded, clearly an attempt to shift the issue away from herself.

    Chapter 5: Voidward Preparations

Renee's eyes flicked to Beatrix with almost-regret, before giving Eberhard a curt and quick nod. She shifted her position slightly, arms still remaining crossed - well, one of her arms was in a flexible cast, so it was... difficult... to unbend. "24 hours, sir, or longer until the operation...

    Chapter 5: Voidward Preparations

"Half and half," Renee shrugged. It was a poor suggestion. Two taskforces would enable a double strike, but would also dilute the power of the forces. "If you put a watch out for the ship, we can detain and board it whilst simultaneously raiding the compound on Soroka," she added, her...

    Chapter 5: Voidward Preparations

Renee couldn't help but feel uneasy in the base now that the GDW and Soyuz were, technically, at war. But she was also aware, in the rational part of her brain, that it was not the fault of the soldiers. The fact that killing the Grau Lancers would cause an intergalactic incident was somewhat...

    Chapter 4: Stalin Rain

That piqued Renee's interest, which was obvious by the way that her position shifted. "That is a serious accusation, Mr Aubert. It's not that I don't believe you, I just have to clarify for our recordings - are you implying that this man was a GDW soldier?" Renee's tone was kindly, true to...

    Chapter 4: Stalin Rain

Renee nodded, mentally making a note of the name. She knew that she wouldn't need to write anything down, as the meeting was recorded and there was almost certainly someone taking notes in the room behind the mirror. She shifted her position slightly as Aubert finished talking, resting an arm...

    Chapter 4: Stalin Rain

There was the hint of a smile on Renee's face that was quickly disguised as sympathy as her and Caleb managed to break through the man's mental defences. She nodded as he spoke, crossing her arms and listening intently. Her mind wandered towards Eberhard's acceptance of Aubert's demand with a...

    Chapter 4: Stalin Rain

Renee was getting somewhere, and that was visible. It didn't matter that Aubert understood the manipulation, his tone was losing its determination and was now more full of fear. Renee began to wonder how admissible anything he said would be during his trial, if he was under the effects of...

    Chapter 4: Stalin Rain

Renee had... done something. The deep breath indicated that he was taken aback by her comment - but was it the nature of it, or the fact that she spoke in French? It was clearly the latter, in Renee's mind, as Aubert began to speak once more. She tilted her head slightly in order to look at...
