The KZZ (Kongzhanzhuang/空戰裝/Space Combat Suit) Type 5, "Tengkong" is named after a mythical Chinese sword that supposedly descended from the heavens, and levitates and points to the direction of war. It is primarily worn by Kongjian units of the HFR.
The Tengkong is a highly expensive suit designed to be logistically simple to operate in the field, maintaining functionality for long periods with little to no maintenance. The entire suit is composed of four primary components: the biosuit, the armor, the helmet, and the backpack.
The biosuit is a bulky, tight fitting, mechanically pressurized suit made of a complex, flexible laminate that maintains the user's temperature and pressure in hostile environmental conditions, providing limited radiation protection without the armor on. Multiple sensors are placed inside the suit to report the user's health conditions. Liquid flows through artificial veins, which spill out when the suit is damaged, quickly solidifying and applying pressure, preventing the user's exposure to the elements and blood loss due to injuries. Hardpoints on the exterior of the suit provide interfaces for the other components of the Tengkong to attach to. Donning the biosuit is a tedious process, requiring a technician to assist and ensure initial functionality.
The armor comes in several pieces that are attached to the biosuit's hardpoints, then further strapped down. The armor is made of a metal alloy-ceramic laminate that, combined with the biosuit, provides 24-48 hours of radiation resistance in complete, deep space to the user before they start to feel the negative effects of radiation poisoning. It is capable of shrugging off pistol rounds entirely, dampens the impact of high rate-of-fire rifle rounds, but remains vulnerable to higher calilbre and armor piercing ammunition. Knobs on the exterior of the armor allow for quick and emergency removal to tend to injuries. The appearance can be changed by re-anodizing the outer surface, to match mission specific needs. Monochromatic emblems of the HFR and the user's original confederate state are placed on one of the shoulder pads, their rank on the other.
On one forearm is a datapad, an interface for the user to access advanced options of their electronics. On the other is a Metal Storm bullet spitter, which gives a single burst of six rounds before requiring a reload, used in breaches and close-quarter-combat.
The helmet features a suite of sensor arrays that allow the user to detect heat signatures and faint vibrations. Antennae at the temples provide long range communication. A detachable faceplate provides additional protection, with cameras for full field-of-view. A HUD on the visor provides information on their vitals, ammo count and aim, and mission specific data.
The backpack carries an air exchanger, water, and additional tools and supplies. It features a reaction-control-system that gives zero-g maneuverability.
