Ulrike took a gulp of coffee as she scrolled across her data pad resting on the table. Eberhard sat opposite of her, looking at his own. He had a white patch covering his left eye and a small cast supporting his nose.
"Hmm... No good, all the decent lawyers around here are above our price range. If we raise the price we won't be able to maintain our staff." Ulrike slumped into the couch.
"I suppose you've also ran out of political favors with our latest stunt. I'm sorry." Eberhard remarked with a deflated, nasal voice.
"You have no idea how much you costed us. You're lucky that we don't have everything confiscated from us." Ulrike shook her head.
"I guess I'm still sleeping on the bridge tonight?" Eberhard faked a whimper.
"Damn right." Ulrike scoffed.
"Here you are," Beatrix said, standing in the doorway. "Have you found a lawyer yet?"
"Not any to our liking." Eberhard replied flatly. "Unfortunatley, our financial situation has gotten worse. We don't have a lot of flexibility right now."
"Was wondering about that," Bee said, walking into the room, her own datapad in hand. "I got another option, if you're interested."
"Have a seat and speak." Ulrike looked at her curiously.
"It's an Earth-based law firm," Beatrix said as she sat down, tapping her pad to life and sliding it to Ulrike. "Cross & Associates. It's a big firm, handle a lot of different cases, but one of their lawyers, who just so happens to specialize in family and divorce law, is on their way to Silburn already."
"C&A? That's a pretty well reputable law firm." Eberhard raised an eyebrow. "And defenitley beyond our reach. The problem is the same. We're strapped for funds."
"With C&A, we can use my funds," Bee said with a shrug. "My family has them on retainer, so I'm not going to be paying market rate anyway. Not to mention my personal relationship with the lawyer in question, he'll only whine a little about working instead of being on vacation."
"Personal relationship?" Eberhard's right eye widened. "Oh! He's that boyfriend you've been talking about!"
"What are the odds." Ulrike remarked with similar surprise. "I knew you came from a wealthy background, but this is new."
"Don't like throwing my money around too frivolously," Beatrix said with a grimace, before nodding. "But this is a worthy cause to do it."
"I have many questions, but those are for later. Thank you." Ulrike nodded with a relieved smile. "Is he already in the system? I want to start coordinating with him."
"Just passed through the gate," Bee said, pulling up her calendar. "Checked the shipping company's website, the ship he's on is supposed to show up in a week. We can start setting up the contract with C&A's corporate offices now though."
"Alright, I'll contract C&A's Magnuski branch right now." Ulrike tapped her datapad. "What should I tell them? That we're looking for this specific person?"
"Yeah, Julian Cross," Beatrix replied. "I'll give 'em some info to confirm my identity so I'm the one financing them, but still put you guys in charge. Don't really know much about law stuff besides making sure to get a lawyer to deal with it."
