• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Crackling spines and barking barrels argued through the narrow corridors as flashes of yellow-white and sparking blue illumianted the dillapidated scenery. A few came dangerously close to hitting the three-entity melee of Jurgen, Vladimir, and the centipede-like alien know attempting to drive...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

"DAMMIT, SHIT! Whoever's stabbing, get it off my head first!" Angry mandibles and claws had been slamming an erratic staccato rhythm against his helmet, scraping through metal as he flailed and yanked at the creature's serpentine grip. His vision was mostly its legs flattened against his visor...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

The nonlethal explosive erupted into a lightning-flash of eye-scorching white. The thundercrack soudn momentarily drowned the angry buzz-hiss of whatever weapon was sending its lethal beams their way. Something crashed and clattered, combined with unintelligible sawing, grating echoes from down...

    Species Application - The Vrexul

Huh, I think that might have been a phrasing mistake on my part. The future vrexul thing can be removed.

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Jurgen had managed to find a storage component just large enough to stuff the filthy box-device into. Oh well, it wouldn't be that bad to clean up after. They had a job to do. With his box loaded full of bullets, he moved to the middle of the formation. "Vlad, you sound like you're...

"If there's any civilians down here, they've no doubt heard the firefight. So have any more of... whatever this was. Maybe it's some science project gone wrong, some sort of experimental bio-machine. There should be another way to the surface not far from here especially for an area where a lot...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Whatever the creature was it clearly was at least smart enough to know to keep its head down. It had displayed impressive durability but far from invincibility. For all of the tenacity it displayed, here it was cowering behind the increasingly debris-filled, fragment saturated ruins of a humble...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

"It's sergeant next time!" He yelled at Korofi, not realizing how the stress of dealing with an alien threat previously never encountered was testing his normally steeled nerves. A few more bursts fired out, shattering the windowed partitions and tearing through tables, cubicles, and computers...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

"Weapons free if that wasn't already clear!" Jurgen ducked as the needle-rounds tore open a section of the wall a mere inch or so above his head. His gun clattered against his plating and the wall as he practically fell to a crouching slouch, knocking over a stack of books and cardboard boxes as...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

In spite of the purple-bleeding holes slammed through its lower body, the semi-serpentine creature only bled. Screams, shrieks, hisses - all absent and in its place the thrwip-thrwip of compressed gas sending fist-sized spines flying towards the team in a wild suppressive spray. Shocked as they...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Neither the creatures nor the infantry were getting any less calm. Exoskeleton clattered against metal, claws scraped against flooring, and voices shouted in Russian, German, English, and French for the larger of the alien invertebrates to stay back. It was listening; perhaps it knew what a gun...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Vladimir's bayonet poked against the back of the man's shirt. Immediately the fluorescent blur on the squad's infra-red vision flared a deeper red but even without the assistance of technology, Vladimir could see a dark shape swirl and coalesce against the glare of the flashlights. Its form...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

A metallic creak of hinging joints sounded out as the judgement of a squad's worth of rifle-mounted flashlights shone onto the bent figure within. Hunched over with matted hair covering its face, withered hands clutching knees tight to their chest, the near withered form was still against the...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

"Just let the guns do the talking if some ten eyed freak shows up." Anna hissed, hoping the Russian would find that satisfactory. Were all soldiers from the Union so unproffessional? She wondered if that same gusto would remain when whatever true atrocities or monstrosities would finally reveal...

"Hold tight as we're finishing our sweep of the upper floor. No signs of hostiles or civilians but someone had accessed the still intact computers a few hours ago. We don't know for what; there were a few security camera records but they were corrupted. I'll inform command and we'll sweep the...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

"Hey, if you wanna get charged at a tribunal for war criminals be my guest. PFC Jorg Wagner will gladly testify against you." Jorg took a moment to flip the bird at Vladimir as he stepped into the room, waving his hand to disperse the thick smoke. There was no telling what kind of evidence had...

"My bad sir, figured we needed a little more room to... wait wha-" Jorgen immediately paused... did he just hear what he thought he did? The room they were observing promptly appeared to explode in a flash of flame, fragments, and blast-force intensity. Rebar, metal, floor tiles, a chunk of the...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Pressing up against the walls with eyes and weapons peeled towards the tiny split, the five personnel team watched it closely as if the door itself might turn on them any minute. For Rafael the vision through the tiny slit was far from ideal, forcing him or anyone else to shift side to side if...
