• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

First Contact - Li Ming Deep Space

If something could be discerned from the garbled dialogue, it was that it seemed to comprise of somewhere between two and four layers of speech. Rather than jumbling over itself into pure noise, everything about it seemed intended to be taken as a singular whole in spite of multiple constituent...

First Contact - Li Ming Deep Space

The problem with trying to communicate with the moist, fetid, chitinous cavern was that it was entirely guess work. The clumps that appeared to be some sort of data-processing plants or "computers" did not correlate with those of conventional human design, sending a scattershot array of signals...

First Contact - Li Ming Deep Space

Amidst a small snowstorm of whirling, fragmented, seemingly invertebrate life the drone looked increasingly akin to a very large mosquito or hosefly making a gruesome mess of whatever large life form it had attached onto. More and more fluid ejected from the tubular wound being drilled into the...

First Contact - Li Ming Deep Space

The hole widened and with it, the debris that exited through the hole made by the drill. Not just flecks of dust-like particle clouds but a fluid of sorts that seemed to shimmer in the faint light of the stars. A murky pinkish-orange fluid, like some badly stored foodstuffs squirting out of a...

First Contact - Li Ming Deep Space

The drill bit and dug into the outer layers of the asteroid through the rock and the metal. The resistance it gave was fleeting before the machinery and soon it gave way in consistency. The drill did not shake but seemed to slow as if clogged or stuck not in stone but something softer...

First Contact - Li Ming Deep Space

Something about this rock did not want to be found out. Its surface revealed some of its secrets; traces of complex electronics and signatures akin to biological mechanism, sometimes separate but more often than not interwoven to be inextricable from one another. Fascinating as it was, the...

First Contact - Li Ming Deep Space

138 was a rock like any other rock, craggy and subtly multicoloured in the distant lights of the vacuum of space. Its shape was akin to a badly rendered semi-blockymeatball in an ancient, underpowered gaming system struggling with nascent 3D graphics. To that end it was an almost comical shape...

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

"That thing... I don't know if it was just some creature or drone but it didn't seem like a mindless animal. We fired enough bullets at it to kill a human, maybe even a daqin, at least five times over and it could still move that quickly. Maybe it was in charge of the creatures if they can be...

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

"Just... shut up for a second Korofi. I need to think." Jurgen had tolerated the security officer but the longer the mission went on, the more he wondered how the man had kept his job and his life. Had he been in any deployments previously? What had he been thinking, that he'd be some hero if...

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

Jurgen's limbs felt like they were attached to his armor and that the boundary between flesh and iron had vanished. The longer they were out of cover, the more he felt that every empty windows and crater in the roads was hiding the same monstrous horror that they had faced in the ruins. That...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

"Command, come in, command? We have bodies, civilian, and contact with the enemy. I repeat, civilian casualties and contact with the enemy. We are pinging our location to you." Jurgen had placed his machine gun on a nearby bookshelf, collapsed onto its corner like a still image of a sinking...

Node System Discussion 2, Electric Boogaloo

I never quite figured out exactly how the nodes play into their lore, but I'm thinking the Primordial Voice/Blood Axis have control of a few at least with their enemies having a far lesser number.

    Vrexul Infantry

I was thinking of initially focusing on smaller scale stuff like how their infantry, vehicles, technology and so on appear as I wanted their actual leadership to be kept somewhat cryptic and distant, in the sense they're not really seen that often in most cases at least for the Instransigence...

    Vrexul Infantry

Thanks. I'm bad at technical organizational structure faire (vrexul military leadership will get somewhat hivemind y or otherwise run by straight up biocomputers) but this is a good sense of structure.

    Vrexul Infantry

Thanks. I was basically following what Acewing was doing in the HFR topic.

    Vrexul Infantry

Is there one for general infantry squads or other military fare? I think it might be best to focus on infantry first then branch out to weaponry and gear. Get people an idea of how vrexul play then focus on the specific elements of that.

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

"That fancy laser toy and your crawly friends just weren't enough huh?" Jurgen almost had a smirk on his face. He didn't emote much especially with taunts towards an enemy that for all he knew, wouldn't even understand him. It wasn't often one would hear this side of him speak over the joint...

    Vrexul Infantry

I was thinking the vrexul article would handle their acutal physical appearance. Things like gear and their infantry (ie. how they function in battle) will be a bit more technical wrt to how to describe them. I was thinking like the HFR article I saw posted here I'd focus initially on the...

    Vrexul Infantry

Hidden across the stars, stalking one another across forgotten worlds, and waging wars hidden to most of the known universe the vrexul may be a divided species but their destructive capabilities are universal. The face of their might is not associated with proffessional armies or elite forces...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

The smell of partially melted armor oppressed the olfactory senses of human and extraterrestrial alike. In the wake of the fragmentation grenade the fizzle-crackling filled the fleeting silence as bodies scrambled and GDW soldiers called out, trying to get a grasp on enemy positions. Sheer force...
