• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Rafael appreciated the silence from the sharpshooter. Everyone was on-edge even with the moment of peace, and although he didn't allow the emotions of others to affect him, Rafael still preferred the company of someone who could keep quiet. He was swapping out his ammo, mind empty, when the...

Day in the Life: Aos Si Ruins on Jing

"Taelara's right. Watch your step, folks." Shen's smooth voice sounded from one of the little airborne drones buzzing nearby. Back on the Aurora Class, she stretched as much as the space allowed for and leaned closer to the multiple monitors spaced in front of her. She peered at one of the...

Day in the Life: Aos Si Ruins on Jing

Shen nodded. "Of course. I made it this far, I'm not going to let you guys have all the fun without me. But I won't be there physically getting my hands dirty. That's what the drones are for. I'll be your all's guardian angel, watching over you from above." Her smile grew a bit. "And you can...

Day in the Life: Aos Si Ruins on Jing

Shen grunted to herself as the Aos Si conversed among themselves. She felt like an outsider, but she didn't mind. One small moment of that feeling was nothing compared to how those three probably felt all their lives. Hands still in her pockets, Shen took a step closer to read the monitor. "As...

Day in the Life: Aos Si Ruins on Jing

Hands in her pockets, Shen Hsiung scanned the model of the ruins. Her eyes traced over each section, a faint half-grin showed on her face as she did so--a grin that was more a permanent fixture than any real show of emotion. Not that she wasn't excited. This site revealed itself to be more...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

"Let me call in a medevac for that splinter. Stay strong." Rafael deadpanned to Korofi as he moved to Lars' position. He gave no indication on whether that snark was meant to be a friendly or aggressive gesture. He always assumed anyone on the receiving end of his remarks knew, even if it was...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

With the scans coming back normal, Rafael let out a silent breath and brought his attention back to preventing the damage, not just healing it. The creature cornered, Rafael took the time to switch his rounds out and return to using his rifle. He moved forward along one of the paths through the...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Rafael crouched near the fallen trooper beside Jurgen, confirming that nothing was broken and the bleeding wasn't a problem. He was about to get up and open fire on the creature, but with so many unknowns about this alien, he decided to do a quick toxins scan to be sure that the needles weren't...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Rafael assessed the injured and helped the other two soldiers get them to their feet. The electric shock luckily didn't melt anything to the fallen soldiers' skin or electrocute them past their armor. The only comfort he gave to the shaken soldiers was a curt pat on the shoulder as he stood to...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Rafael's jaw clenched shut as the electric current shot white-hot pain up his feet and his HUD glitched out, but he was far enough away not to become completely incapacitated. The screams of his fellow soldiers snapped him into focus. Three, four, five down. Great, the little one got away. Enemy...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Rafael steeled himself and finished loading the nonlethal rounds into his rifle. "I'm going to deliver a nonlethal to stun it. Do we have anything to capture it with?" He asked, referring to the small creature. He kept an eye and ear out for that bigger alien. If it stayed away, then it was a...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Rafael's patience was beginning to wear thin, but he told himself to remain calm. If he went-off now, he wouldn't be helping the already building tension surrounding his squad. "Yes, as you can see from the hundreds of dismembered bodies lining the streets, this is all a special prank on your...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Back in the room, Rafael was eyeing the strange entity in the glass container, not sure where to point his gun while he was surrounded by an increasing number of strangeness all around him. He was reaching for some nonlethal dummy rounds when Vladimir attached a knife to his bayonet. "Careful."...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Rafael kept his head forward, scanning for anything that moved. He felt like they were being watched, but with eyes in all directions, there was nothing they could do but keep moving and wait. "Keep quiet," he muttered to Vladimir. "I have a feeling that any civilians would've revealed...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

"Corporal Rafael Romero, field medic under Lieutenant Olbrich's squad." He turned back towards Private Wagner as he went off on the Russian team in front of them. "Wagner, cool it. Whatever the consequences of that explosion are, we'll find out in a minute. So let's treat the Russians as our...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Rafael stood dumbfounded as Jurgen's voice crackled over the coms. "Joder," he swore under his breath before answering. "It's the Russians, sir. They just blew up the room we were about to secure." He glanced behind at his team to make sure none of them were hurt before turning back around and...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

"Stop." Rafael quickly but smoothly held out a warning hand. "There's something on the other side," he said, pointing to the strange rock-like formation holding the door open. "We have to take this carefully. From what I can see, there's high probability of a hostile inside. So unless you want...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Rafael gave a slight nod to the lieutenant and began to lead the blue team down the dim hallway, keeping his steps silent and even. He noted the light at the end and tensed his muscles subconsciously. Someone was in there. Or something. If whoever inside this building was a hostile, even if they...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Corporal Rafael Romero followed Lieutenant Olbrich's lead. He crept silently towards the office, breaths coming through light and careful. This was the most brutal scene Rafael had witnessed since enlisting in the CSC by far, and only a few events of his life before that came close to what was...
