• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

With an expressionless face, Rafael did the same, scanning for any life forms despite everything reading contrary. He could feel the slight press of metal from his cross necklace under his armor. It felt warm -- or maybe that was the sensation in his own chest. Rafael crossed himself, snippets...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Staying near the back of the wall, Rafael didn't have a clear sight of the creature. He helped lower Korofi to a seating position and performed another vital scan. He was stabilizing, but the sooner the squad cleared this alien out -- one way or another -- and Raf could call in a medevac, the...

Day in the Life: Aos Si Ruins on Jing

"You got it, boss," Shen said, a drone buzzing over near Amisra as she spoke. She put a hand to her chin as she considered Fia's words. "I mean, I don't know much about mana, but we could try it. We'd have to be cautious, though. Don't wanna accidentally power one of those robots back on."

Shen nodded, staring at the frozen corpse with a look of slight curiosity and hidden surprise. She then realized she didn't have her camera on. "Yeah, that's doable." A drone did a 360 around the area. "But -- and this may just be me -- I think there's gotta be a slightly more hospitable place...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Once off of Vlad, Rafael threw the creature down and surveyed the chaos. Speaking of chaos -- "Korofi-!" But the air filled with the smell of burning flesh as the ray sliced the side of Korofi's torso. Rafael moved to reach him but had to quickly hit the floor again as the grenade exploded. He...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Rafael's nose stung with the smell of the energy ray's effect as it blasted across the hall. He began firing at the spider-like things to halt their retreat -- he was getting frustrated at this game of hit-and-run -- but paused as Korofi shouted out about an explosive and turned to Vlad. "Por el...

Day in the Life: Aos Si Ruins on Jing

Shen was about to make a remark when she caught the faces of Gwaed and Amisra on one of the drone cams, deep in some meditative stance she couldn't begin to understand. She let the silence permeate, and for some reason Shen's mind flashed childhood memories of her wàipó bowing before the small...

A drone approached one of the tablets, scanning it. Shen finished off another bulb of coffee. "What's in these tanks? Some sort of embalming fluid? Or maybe life-support?" She muttered out-loud half to herself as the drones buzzed about the room.

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Keeping his position in the back, Rafael made his way closer after hearing Jurgen cry out. Rafael sighed to himself when he saw the Russian briskly stabbing at the centipede creature currently wrapping itself around the Lieutenant's helmet. They should've caught that tiny alien sooner, and now...

"Hm," Shen grunted as they moved into the new area. Another construct. She wondered just how many there were down here. "Let me see," Shen mumbled over the comms as a drone slowly flew closer to the construct, getting a few feet away before beginning to scan the robotic figure over in a harsh...

Day in the Life: Aos Si Ruins on Jing

Shen soon emerged from the elevator, lifting her eyes from her datapad to acknowledge the group with a nod. She would stay behind in the corvette, of course, but she needed to stretch her legs before returning to "desk work," as she liked to call it. She brusquely put a hand to the back of her...

Day in the Life: Aos Si Ruins on Jing

Shen's expression tightened a bit as she listened to the Aos Si argue, mostly because she was trying to focus. She really couldn't afford to give a shit about their drama. Her eyes scanned the status of the drones, one hand over her mouth in thought. "Thirteen. Five damaged." Shen muttered. She...

Shen gave a half-hearted salute to Fia. "Got it." She turned back to the monitors. Oh shit. "Okay, looks like we're blastin'!" She said as the rest of the drones moved backwards in a defensive semi-circle, shooting at the construct in an attempt to slow it down.

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Rafael ducked behind a cubicle near the end of the formation. He shuddered as Vlad yelled 'fire in the hole!', knowing what was going to come next. He didn't know if he'd ever get over that first impression. He barely flinched as the flashbang exploded. Rafael nodded towards the soldier beside...

"Heh. I don't think he's the kinda guy to carry that around without knowing how to use it." Shen smirked, but urgency still showed through in her eyes. "They might be able to hold it off in time, if they're both as competent as they look."

"Criminal, eh?" Distracted by the video feed for a moment, Shen glanced up at Fia and then back to the map of the structure. "They're two stories underground -- about two minutes of traversal."

Shen bolted upright as the drones she sent to the front captured the strange figure in the few last seconds before dying out. "Clara! Little Yang!" She tried unsuccessfully to get them back online before slumping into her chair. "Well, that sucks," she mumbled before immediately leaning forward...

Shen smiled and took the coffee. "Hey, don't blame me for getting a little whimsical around here." She followed Fia's eyes to the monitor and took a long sip of her coffee before answering. "They're all pointing to one room in the facility. Must be important." She pointed at the screen with one...

A drone flew over to the map, scanning the carvings up and down in waves of blue light. An image of the layout then appeared on one of Shen's monitors, which she zoomed in on closely. "Follow your guts, you two. Clearly there's a connection between this place and your bodies. Where is your heart...

    Chapter 1: Vital Signs Unwelcome

Rafael blankly stared at Vladimir with that unchanging mix of "not amused" and tired expression that he always kept on his face. "I know." He let the rest of the group move past him. The Spaniard let out a small breath. Maybe this whole situation really was...almost getting to him. He let that...
