• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

"Mierda -- Doug! Hijo de puta!" Rafael barked, anger spiking his voice for the first time as Doug took off towards the drone. The next person to blindly try and sacrifice themselves was going to get a surprise vasectomy -- sans anesthetic. He sighed as Korofi followed, shouting at Rafael to...

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

Rafael's head whipped towards the sound of Doug's cry and booked it back down the corridor, staying as low and covered as he could. Part of him was grateful as he watched Korofi reacting quickly and scooping Doug up to safety while the medical half of him was internally screaming at Korofi for...

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

Rafael, always the skeptic, thought the same as Vlad at first. But as he glanced down at the human footprints and signs of death around them, he knew there wasn't any room for doubting. Still prone under cover, he looked over to Doug, hoping his tinkering skills could boost the signal or else...

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

"We've got you," Rafael said through the comms, his eyes trained for any sight of more movement as he readied his weapon. He carefully scanned over the other possible exits and windows to see if there was any movement from a possible second party that could sneak up on Vlad and Doug's position.

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

Rafael moved up behind the tank, purposefully avoiding eye contact with the bent corpses nearby. He quickly set up watch, relived that they got there with no incident but feeling incredibly exposed in this position. "That's the most stupidest tattoo idea I've heard," he muttered to Korofi, dark...

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

Rafael nodded, having silently moved towards the drone while the footage played. "Agreed. Whatever we find there would be an advantage," he said, checking his mag. "Just have to be smart about the journey."

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

Rafael kept his eyes to the sky as they tinkered away at the drone. This kind of stuff was all Greek to him -- the exact opposite of his specialty in human biology. He could feel his feet and shoulders ache as exhaustion began to creep up on him, but Rafael didn't dare let his guard down.

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

There was no time to relax as Vlad's ground team snatched the drone and dashed back towards relative safety. He watched the grubs' formations and attempted to keep them from flanking the soldiers. They were in a tricky position, to put it lightly, and Rafael didn't need to be reminded how...

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

Rafael positioned covering fire from the rooftops, distracting as many enemies as they could while the recovery team beelined for the drone's signal. With how difficult these grub-like beings were to hit, the conservation of ammo wasn't helping, but Rafael sure as hell wasn't going to be caught...

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

Rafael, in the process of gathering a covering team, narrowed his eyes and nodded at Vlad's statement. "You're staying with me," he said to Korofi. He sure as hell wasn't going to let Korofi jump out there like fodder just because he was injured. Not on his watch. "No seas un héroe, pendejo," he...

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

"Copy." Rafael and his group took position on the ground floor, facing the exits. He set up towards the huge hole in the back wall, not bothering to wonder where it came from. He glanced to his side at Korofi and silently took stock of the rest of his med kit. The icon continued to flash on his...

Day in the Life: Aos Si Ruins on Jing

"It means I'll get a raise," Shen said, smiling. She took another sip of coffee. "But more importantly, what the fuck was that? I was this close to having to call a corpse disposal team down there." Shen had shot down to the three Aos Si's location as soon as they arrived, but her posture and...

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

Rafael nodded to Jurgen and motioned to a few other soldiers to form up. He nudged Korofi on his non-burned side as he passed him. "With me." Raf didn't want their only majorly injured squad mate to be too far from him in case the wound reopened. He said a silent prayer, hoping to God that the...

Chapter 2: The Ruins Are Alive

Rafael got into cover behind a crumbling half-wall and glanced up, surveying the horizon. "The rooftops," he muttered into the comms before speaking more clearly. "If we got into a higher position, we could reach a signal. Maybe." He shrugged. "Might expose us, though."
