History
Conceived in the 2260's as a part of the HFR's fleet modernization and reconstruction program after the Zhongzhi event and Operation Distant Flock crippled existing fleet power. Faced decades of delay, having to repurpose existing infrastructure in Shen Zhou and Li Ming, before the first Lengfeng class was deployed in the 2280's along with its sister classes.
Layout
From bow to stern:
Weapon systems --> Command module --> Crew module --> Cargo hold and workshop --> Engines
Armor
Due to its frontline purpose, the Lengfeng Class employs extensive armor across its hull, especially at the bow. At the bow, explosive reactive armor is employed against direct frontal attacks from high velocity slugs and missiles. Underneath it is an extensive mesh of steel and directional ceramic, composite laminates, water and liquid fusion fuel tanks doubling as raw fortification mass. Around the bases of the coilguns are electric-magnetic armor linked to the capacitors that power the guns; slugs making impact complete short circuits that vaporize the warhead. Along the sides of the ship are more steel and composite plating, networks of plumbing providing additional protection.
The Lengfeng Class' main weaknesses are its stern and the sides of its engines, which not only lack extensive armor, but are also blindspots where the coilguns' arcs can't reach.
Weapons
The Lengfeng Class' Jinbao coilguns have adequate tracking to counter missiles at short range, the caliber to penetrate most spacecraft armor, but lack the fire rate or velocity to effectively strike targets at medium to long range.
Life Support
Tran Armored Miniature Habitation Module, designed and manufactured by Tran Aerospace, a module designed specifically to compliment HFR's bio-cyber enhanced personnel
Tactical Doctrine
The Lengfeng Class is designed to harass and engage enemy spacecraft at close range, defending the rest of the battlegroup against missile barrages. It uses its dual-grade engines to maintain its bow facing enemy fire, absorbing attacks with its heavy, frontal armor while its retrograde engine plumes melt any projectile flying directly at the engines. The Lengfeng Class requires the rest of the battlegroup to cover its rear where it is most vulnerable.
