• Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

Superstate Building: The Indo League

In the 2030's, changing American foreign policy had it pivot away from the defense of Taiwan, allowing the PRC to annex the republic, with some economic sanctions but no repercussions otherwise. This greatly alarmed the SEA nations, which consolidated further under ASEAN and looked for protection elsewhere, namely Europe and India.

For a time, the increasingly militaristic alliance worked. The PRC was deterred from further aggression. However, the biodiversity collapse of the mid 21st century severely weakened the alliance, allowing the PRC to venture further south and annex northern Vietnam, and take further control of the South China Sea. It was around the 2050's that a new organizational structure was proposed that allowed for deeper coordination and consolidation of resources to not only combat Chinese imperialism, but also mitigate the worst effects of the environmental apocalypse. This new organization, with India at the helm, as the most economically and militarily powerful, would become known as the Indo League.

The Indo League's journey was one of peril. Multiple times in its existence, the alliance threatened to break apart and be absorbed by the other, major powers as client states. The climate apocalypse and Chinese imperialism they sought to combat squeezed the alliance, testing its resolve. Multiple times the league failed the test, members either leaving voluntarily or annexed by the PRC. Still, the Indo League hobbled onwards.

As the superstates ventured into space, the League's own space agency was founded, allowing it to set up small settlements on Luna. A major victory was achieved in the late 21st century when it secured an economic alliance with the Commonwealth of Worlds. With the CoW's aid, the Indo League would have its own mining operations in the asteroid belt. Its space economy was still magnitudes smaller than the larger powers, denying it its own interstellar colonies, but with the space production and resources coming down from orbit, the league was able to stave off further economic collapse and maintain its member states' sovereignty.

The Indo League continued to suffer internal conflicts, coming to a head in the early 23rd century, with the collapse of the PRC. With their primary rival gone, many questioned the purpose of the Indo League, if it was now just a hegemony under India. However, by now multiple financial institutions and space commands were deeply entrenched in the league, making dissolution economically unviable. No longer just a deterrent against foreign aggression and a bulwark against apocalypse, the Indo League was now a powerful economic institution unto its own, holding a non-negligible political sway in Sol's inner system, with colonies on Luna, Venus, and Vesta.

If nothing else, the Indo League is an alliance of nations in South East Asia which are adamant on maintaining individual cultural identities; unity in disunity. The Indo League's presence was further cemented as mainland China consolidated under the URC in the mid 23rd century, which sought to normalize relations with the Southeast Asian nations, and renew cooperative economic agreements.
