A Science Fantasy Space Opera

  • Nobles of Null is a forum based roleplay site where sci-fi and magic collide. Here, Earth remains fractured and divided despite humanity reaching out to the stars. Worse still, the trans-human slaves of one major power have escaped, only to establish their own Empire, seething with resentment at abuses of the past. Even the discovery of aliens, though medieval in development, has failed to rally these squabbling children of Earth together with its far darker implications. Worse still, is the discovery of the impossible - magic. Practiced by the alien locals, nearly depleted and therefore rare, its reality warping abilities remains abstract and distant to the general populace. All the while, unseen in the darkness of space, forces from without threaten to press in. For those with eyes opened by insight, it is clear that an era is about to end, and that a new age will dawn.

    Chapter 4: First Trial

As James scoured the Lovey Dovey, he found schematics, logs. Mostly boring bureaucratic items, environmental control logs, engine data that wasn't particularly useful, the most recent screaming that it was shut off abruptly. The most interesting bits of data that James could scrounge up was the...

    Chapter 4: First Trial

As the assault team waited for the signal to launch, James' fake distress signal yielded results. "This is the MDCS (Mining Drone Carrier Spacecraft) Lovey Dovey." A harsh South African accent with audible suspicion. "GFS (General Freighter Spacecraft) Au---" The statement wasn't even...

    Chapter 8: Negotiations

The Governor took a pause at Amisra's curiosity. Her hand went for her chin, but in reality her fingers glided along the lines that divided her lower jaw from the rest of her skull. She eyes kept a lock on the group, but the pause, the movement of her hand, they betrayed an unwillingness to...

    Chapter 4: First Trial

Alex turned his crash couch around to examine Marius. His face was unreadable. Did he figure out Marius? The newcomer couldn't tell, because Alex instead nodded. "That's not a bad suggestion. Let's try not to damage our prize as much as possible." He turned his crash couch back around to the...

    Chapter 8: Negotiations

The Governor raised both eyebrows, her eyes leery as she examined the Aos Si, listening attentively to their introductions, statements, and questions. She first replied to Amisra and Gwaed with a reassuring tone, too reassuring. "We've moved beyond the tyranny, the reckless of our ill-fated...

    Chapter 4: First Trial

"Make sure you get your vac suits on." Alex admonished in a neutral tone to the arrivals on the bridge. He hated to admit it, but some of these people the corpos sent him were rookies. It seemed their priorities were more finding people with no strings attached over real competency. Regardless...

    Chapter 7: In the Limelight

Even lost in thought, Amisra's upbringing showed. Head turned to wistfully gaze off into the distance, the redheaded woman had unconsiciously reached across with one hand, tightly grasping the other arm as it dangled. The tightness that she felt in her chest went from emotional to physical as...

    Chapter 7: In the Limelight

When she found the exhibit that allowed her to create her own music using the collected resonance of the instruments through history, she was a bit stunned. The last time she had held an instrument was when she was a child, both hands too small to properly pluck and strum at her fathers...

    Chapter 7: In the Limelight

Then came the Qing dynasty, when the mainland was occupied, once again, by foreigners, but this time different. These were humans to be sure, but paler skin, with brown and blonde hair colors, wielding weapons of metal and fire not unlike those employed against the Aos Si themselves. Described...

    Chapter 7: In the Limelight

Like a teenager completely immersed in her own datapad, Amisra remained silent as she quietly tapped away at her display. Already, she had in mind what she wanted to find out and know. Politics. The major players. The parties. The demographics. Their worries. Their woes. What did the humans...

"That will depend, in part, to their willingness to cooperate with us." "... What do you expect the chances are that elves and humans will be able to participate in this cooperation you speak of?" "Well, Mr. Reporter, our chances will increase if we address them by their proper names: Aos Si...

    Chapter 7: In the Limelight

Gwaed glared at Lady Han, as she had quite foolishly given him a reason to vent his anger in some manner. That was all he wanted really, and peace talks demanded that no one provoke him in some way, because he was looking for a reason to be mad. Good job. "You were about to hand me a device for...

    Chapter 7: In the Limelight

He stepped towards one of the box caves. Its innards were revealed by the front glass wall and was well lit by soft white lights. The rest of the room was covered by fake and glossy wood panels, while the tables were egg white. On each table were variations of the datapads that the all the...

    Chapter 7: In the Limelight

Gwaed was annoyed, angry, all of his emotions boiling under his skin. But Lady Han had raised a possible good idea, a distraction. Maybe a distraction would be ideal, a way to integrate themselves. They needed to be seen did they? Normalized? Maybe this was the way. He looked to Lady Han, the...

    Chapter 7: In the Limelight

Li Shi Cheng shook his head. "All records coming in from systems humans have colonized show that there aren't major magical activity present. That, or the other nations have been covering it up. I will say though, that the Yasny system occupied by the Soyuz has a healthy and thriving Aos Si...

    Chapter 7: In the Limelight

Strapped in to what the humans call seatbelts that felt more like tools of constraint and control rather than anything meant for safety, the Aos Si watched the red vegetated group beneath them grow less defined as the flying machine ascended into the air. It was a nauseating experience, as their...
